To replace bumper or not
As can be seen in this thread, someone mildly rear ended me. Long story short, there is some discussion about whether the rear bumper needs replacing. Two questions for that before I go to battle for replacement:
1) Where, within say 50 miles or so of Manhattan, is the best body shop to do the work?
2) Am I better off just trying to fix the stock bumper, or do the Porsche parts for that come back good enough that it can be mounted and look perfect again? I know lots of lesser cars' bumpers are never quite the same if replaced (waves, ripples, etc).
Obviously, should the bumper need replaced, I'll chip in the difference to "upgrade" to the Euro bumper.

The body shop can usually make the car regarding if its fixable or not. There should be no ripples or any sign that it was repaired afterwards ; if you can see it on the bumper then it was not repaired correctly.

Have the whole thing replaced.
The PO of my car got 'rear ended' by two ditzs in an SUV when he had the car only 3 months.
The new rear bumper etc. cost HER insurance company $2,800. It was a perfect repair, paint matching etc. etc.
The down-side was that in the CARFAX the car was listed as being in an accident - so it kinda hit his resale value a bit (in my favor I might add).

I recently had a bumper repaired and nicely restored by a shop near JFK. Used them a number of times over the years. Feel free to email me if you'd like his info (no affiliation, no guarantee, but he's been good to me. etc)
(Also have a terrific german car specialist in Southampton but that's probably a foolish schlep).

Foreign Specialties in Manville, NJ (near Somerville). Talk to Larry, the owner. Absolutely outstanding work. Sorry, I don't have his number with me.

Talk to your body shop, I had a guy back into the front of my car, relatively minor but required the replacement of the bumper cover and fog light.
I did a deal with the body shop, i sourced the replacement bumper (euro style) and duct/fog light combo. I Invoiced the shop for the price Porsche was going to charge him, and all was good. The body shop still got his money from the insurance and i got the front end changes i was after.
Most body shops are willing to "Do Deals"!!! Good Luck.
