Remove rear bumper?

Remove rear bumper?
IS it fairly easy to remove the rear bumper on my 993? I am thinking of fitting a 100 cell cat and understand removing the bumper is the way to go. Any advice?
Thanks

I've done the job myself. It's not too difficult.
A couple of points to note:
Use masking tape or similar to protect the bodywork as you slide the bumper away from the car.
Jack the car up (no need to remove the road wheel) for better access to the nuts and bolts.

Why are we removing bumpers to replace exhaust parts? Its all done from underneath and isn't hard at all with even the most basic hand wrenches, unless your parts are rusted to the core, then all bets are off.

I recently removed & replaced the cat from a 110K mile 95' and ALL the fixing hardware was pretty well corroded. A lot of the nuts & bolts had to be either sheared off or sometimes cut with a Dremel. All you gotta' do is pull the tail pipes & mufflers first. The mufflers are very HEAVY - do not let one fall on your hand! After getting the cat off, I noticed some sort of aluminum air transfer pipe or chamber that sort of ran the length of the rear bumper cover. So even if the bumper came off, one still could not likely access the cat??? What a pain that job was...easy, but hard.

Well sure, the easiest thing to do is start with what comes off easiest.......the muffs. Then work inward from there. Taking the bumper cover off is a HUGE waste of time and energy. There's nothing that can't be gotten from underneath.
And actually a plumbers tourch made have made quick work of getting rusted bolts free, but that tends to not be for the light hearted

I need to replace one or more of the metal pipe supports that keep the shape of the bumper PU. Can I do this with the bumper in place or does it all have to come off? BTW +1 for not needing to take the bumper off for doing the cat.

I think normally you should be able to do it with bumper cover on. Mine were so rotted, they're gone and I have replacements waiting for my new rear cover to arrive. I'll be taking mine off for the swap, but there's no way I'd get those supports off normally without taking the cover off. The bolt heads aren't even bolts anymore......just pucks of rust
