Question Problem with RPM not dropping

Hi guys,

I have an annoying problem since the cold started here in Belgium. I don't know if it has something to do with th weather or not?

When i push the accelerator and let it go the RPM doesn't drop as quickly as it should?

What could this be???

Thanks!

Clean the ISV valve. That'll do it. It's just gunky and the cold weather makes it worst.

Here is the DIY link from Robin's site: http://p-car.com/diy/isv/

I didn't know that the ISV is responsible for the RPM managment?

Thanks for the tip!

No problem. Yes, that's what the "Idle Stabilization Valve" is for.

Let us know if you noticed improvements after you clean it. I do it once a year now and it's amazing how gunky and dirty gets in there.

When you clean it, you really have to flush it out. Rotate it back and forth in efforts to get it to freely cycle open and closed.

ISV or a vacuum leak.

Don't ignore the simple - make sure the carpet isn't jammed against the bottom of the pedal, that can cause the "problem" too.

I always start with the simple solutions so I pushed the accelerator in the engine to check this.

Thanks and happy holidays.

I had the same issue. Cleaned out the ISV three times... still kept "sticking" at around 2,000 rpm on decel. I even lubricated all the linkages under the floorboard without success. My father-in-law came in to town (an old Trans Am series racer from the 70s). He took a can of WD40 and sprayed the crap out of the throttle cable and spring in the engine compartment ... viola, problem resolved.

Thumbs up

Problem solved!

Yesterday I took the ISV valve apart and cleaned it with brake cleaner. The inside of the ISV was dirty you couldn't imagine.

I'm pretty sure nobody cleaned this the last 10 years

I'm glad to hear that. You may want to check it again in a few months. You'll be surprised how quickly it gets dirty again.
