Default Relay location...

My rear defroster has not worked for some time and my rear wiper works only intermittently (sometimes it will swipe immediately when I push the switch on the console, other times it won't go at all).

These two functions share the same fuse, which is not blown, so I'm assuming it could be a relay problem. Does anyone know which relay controls the two functions?

Thanks in advance!

I just looked in my wiring diagrams which I have out to do the rear fog light install:

The rear window wiper relay sits on the rear window wiper motor and is not in the central electrical unit. If you have the workshop manual you can find it in field E71 in the wiring diagram.

I found the rear window heating relay but the number is cut off on my copy. The only thing I can tell you is that it is not located in the central electric. It sits in field P30 in the wiring diagram.

I can't seem to locate my camera, sorry.

Okay, the relay/fuse panel where you verified the defroster fuse
was good -- that's the panel which also houses the relays you seek.
(The panel in the ENGINE BAY).

On the left side of this panel you will see THREE relays
arranged in a triangle. The rear defroster relay is
the "top block on the triangle".

Hope that helped.

Terrific, thanks. Although the fusebox cover does a good job of explaining each fuse location, there is no such indication for relays.

On the subject of rear demisters , mine has started making a 'fizzing' type of noise when I turn it on. I can only hear this when the car is idle , so it may have been happening for a while...
Any suggestions or is this normal?

You should do a search and if that doesnt pull up relevant info, then
post your problem on a new thread that members can identify.

"Fizzing" and electrical is usually not a very good mix ... I wouldn't use it till you chase it down.

I wonder if the third brake light fizzes just before the rear glass explodes?

Slap on back of hand accepted and noted!

In fairness you're right , I was reminded of the 'fizzing' as I was reading the post and threw my bit in through laziness as much as anything else.

My apologies.

I just re-read my post to you. Yes, there was a little tone to it - but that
definitely wasn't my intention. I was just looking to re-route your efforts.
Sorry.
