Question Black Scraps coming from Air Vent

I have a 95 C2 coupe with 60k miles.

Last week I found a small scrap of very thin black plastic on my passenger seat. I thought nothing of it at the time. Then a friend/neighbor and 993 owner (96 C2 coupe) called to ask me about bits of shredded plastic coming from the center air vent of his car. (see photo)

This week was the first time in eight months that either of us used our heaters, so I suspect that it is simply bits of the air vent liner sloughing off.

Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone shed any light on the source or cause? Should I be concerned?

Thanks

-Rick

Same thing happened to me in my 964 with the heat on. Must be graceful aging.

Same here. Just a few pieces every once in a while.

I also have been experiencing a few bits coming out on the dash but very small bits. today however I was not so fortunate as this piece came flying out, well my wife fished it out once it showed it's ugly head.

Does anyone know what it is and what part it plays in the vent, I was using A/C today a lot, 30 Deg C here but the A/CX works well, no issues just these black bits, it almost feels like teflon.

Is there a requirement to change outr anything to repair it or just forget it. there is no harm from it, just not sure why it is happening.

Thanks,
Lloyd

Larry,

Is there any issue with the sealing material not being there? Will it let anything in to be concerned with. I am pretty certain it will not leak any exhaust but is there anything else to be concerned about?

Thanks for your feedback.

Arachnofobia sufferer I just about drove off the road when I saw these black strips popping up out of the vent!

I had the small black scraps coming out of my ac ducts and have attributed them to a foam gasket that is between the inlet air duct screen and the air duct grill. The foam was disintegrating. I took it out and used black electrical tape as a temporary fix.

As as far as what you are seeing ikorcum, who knows. Did you maybe run into a dominatrix ?

I can't think of any critical issues that would arise from a lack of duct seals. It's annoying, though. My old boxster would blow bits of foam out of the vents whenever the fan was turned to its highest setting. A rather large piece blew out onto my ex's lap one afternoon, and I almost crashed when she shrieked. She thought it was a spider.

It took me a bit to find out what a dominatrix was but finally I found one of his cousins, he must have parachuted in. . . .

Have had the same issue also, however it seems to be a very thin layer, almost like peeling paint.

Were by chance, any of the parts in the ventilation system painted from factory?
