So how are you guys removing the airbag without detonating it? I'm looking for a 964 right now and would love to install a 996 wheel when I find the new car.
My mechanic told me not only to disconnect the battery but wait at least 5 minutes before you disconnect the bag as there is a slow discharge capacitor in the system that might have enough voltage to deploy the airbag if you try to pull it sooner.
I don't know if this is fact but better to be safe than have a face full of airbag.
I am debating this as well. Are you saying to just recover the 4 spoke and make it a little fatter instead of swaping it out for a 996 3 spoke. Is there any advantage to a 3 spoke were there are less spokes to get in the way...vs. the 4 spoke.
Have you been having problems keeping a grip on your current wheel?, have the spokes been getting in the way? Probably not but as I first responded, "it's a matter of personal taste, and grip comfort"
I also don't think a smaller dia wheel does much good in an everyday driver but does make a big difference in a race car due to close seating position and the left knee working the clutch, that's why I have always used a MOMO D wheel in my past race cars for clearance.
Although I haven't had this whhel on the trackyet (January) I LOVE IT!! 340 MM nice and thick with an airbag. I installed it last week and purchsed it from a felow R-Lister (Skip).
I bought one of the 340mm wheels on the group buy...and love it! It changes the feel of the car and when I drive another 993 with a stock wheel it feels like a truck...waaaayy to large!

I have a 1996 Tip C2 with a 996 three spoke and it works great. The buttons are also better positioned and work better than the stock wheel. I can shift with out taking my hands off of the wheel.
