I've had Hagerty on a number of classic/ collector cars. I called them before buying my 993 and they said no problem we can add the car to your existing policy for $600/ year. So I called to add the car as soon as I got it and they played stupid with me. They said that they see that I was quoted a price, but that they were unable to insure the car. I yelled a little bit and they then decided to add the car to my existing policy. But to be honest with you I was a little unhappy with the way they treated the situation and have since added it to my Allstate policy. It is only $1400/ year and I feel much better with that. The last thing I want to do is be afraid to drive my car when and where I choose to. FYI my 65 El Camino cost $89/ year with an agreed value of $25K...... Go figure............

Potential theft loss (more for parts than joy rides) and liability are two big factors in policy pricing. The El Camino, while a great ride, isn't even remotely the risk the 993 is on either of those factors. Remember when shopping for insurance, claims paying counts more than price. Some broad market insurers have horrendous reputations for not paying fair claims on cars like ours (I have personal - bad- experience with Allstate). YRMV.

I understand the huge difference from the El Co to my 993. I have 5 vehicles on my Allstate policy including the Porsche, CLK, Touareg, Toyota Pick up and 300C SRT8. I think that the entire policy costs me $6000 for the year. No vehicle with the exception of the 993 is more than 2 years old. I think that the premium for the Porsche is very reasonable considering that I live in the Banana Republic, where every 16 year old drives his very own stolen car! I have been very happy with Allstate over the years while using them for my business vehicles' and liability insurance. I run over 35 heavy trucks with lots of silly claims year after year and they continue to serve us with a smile. In closing I think that the speciality companies are not a smart idea for many people here because they limit the types of driving that most of us enjoy....

I just switched to a Hagerty policy about a month ago. Same coverage as my old Traveler's policy, but actually about $100 a year cheaper. I believe I have a stated value of $35k. My biggest fear was my car getting totalled and my insurance company trying to give me blue book, which last time I checked was around $19k.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll call State Farm (maybe could put all the cars there) and Hagerty. Haven't even heard about Grundy but will check it out too.
Thanks again and if you have more opinions/experience, let me know.

I just started this dance w/my normal ins company State Farm. They ask that I give them an appraisal for the car and then I will get a quote. My car is a bit special and should come in around $75-$80k, so we will see what $$ they come back with. Car only does about 1k miles a year.
