Unfortunately, you guys will have to wait for pics. Airbag is on backorder from Germany and won't arrive for another 2 weeks. I'll post pics once installed with airbag. Just thought I'd leave the positive feedback.
Glen, I have to confess, I got a sneak peek from Don @ Dallas Custom... I had some other parts in for work (eBrake tray, eBrake handle, shifter) and he sent me a pic of yours... It looks great. Now I really wish I'd have gone with the 1/8" padding.

As soon as I get my other parts installed I will post another pic also... I am really liking it. Just need one small part to finish it up, the aluminum shift pattern insert for the ****. Should be here soon... I hope....

The wheel is a bit thicker than I anticipated. I measured my M5 wheel (just about 4" circumference) and did some calculations. Thought that the 1/8" would bring it right there from the 996 three-spoke. However, when I got the wheel back, it's now close to 4 1/2". I've got pretty big hands, but it may be a bit too much. We'll see after I install and drive. I guess you saw the insert; color matched nicely, no? I wanted the 997 GT3 RS wheel, but backdated to the 993. I think I got pretty close. Again, I'll post pics as soon as the airbag arrives.

I like the stock look, and the "frozen in time" feeling of sitting in a 993 cockpit as it was originally designed. Perhaps I am becoming traditional in my old age.
I agree. I will trade my frozen in time wheel for anyone's Alcantara. I always wash my hands before driving, so I am not concerned with additional wear! A tip I learned many years ago for the track applications is to always use like material for driving gloves and steering wheel. A leather palm glove on a suede wheel will increase wear.

Glen, I'd be really interested in hearing how you like the thicker wheel once it is on.
It did look really good but the proof is in the driving as you noted

I'm going home in about an hour to install the wheel. If all goes well, I should have some pics tonight or tomorrow.

So why can't this be done with a 4 spoke wheel?

It can be done with a four-spoke wheel... Dallas Custom has sold them on Ebay periodically. However, if you're going to drop the coinage... I wouldn't want a 12-year-old gen 1 airbag in front of my face.

Is this the same size as the fatter GT3 wheel (CPZ), or is it the same. I guess it's easier to find a used normal GT3 wheel and have it fattened up.

Not many people are willing to give up their thicker GT3 wheels. I looked hard and posted on the GT3/GT2 forum. However, the thicker GT3 wheel is not available in alcantara. The alcantara GT3 wheel is of standard thickness. So, if you want a thicker alcantara wheel, there are no stock options AFAIK.

I called him about my Cayman wheel. Mine does not have a thumb rest. He can wrap it and make it thicker, but he will not add a thumb rest to my SW. Do you think it is worth it just to get a thicker wheel without the thumb rest?
