There seem to be a lot of conflicting advice on this, having read through several old posts. I certainly don't want to use one if it restricts airflow.. I thought it would be a good thing, getting colder air into the engine. But if it doesn't provide for more fresh air into the engine (e.g if it doesn't work), then what's the point?? No logged results except for those from "Theothereric"??

I didn't say that, exactly. During traffic or low speeds, it gets cooler air to the engine. Somebody (Robin ?) proved this by measuring intake air temps. But at higher RPMs (i.e. higher air flow) it's questionable. I found a few more hp using the cup (open) airbox. And the gains are ONLY at high rpm's.

Anyway, the part is cheap, so get it if you like it. It essentially makes little difference either way.

Smile Off the 993 TT

The snorkel is off the 993TT car, and I believe it is found on the 993 RS and 993 RS CS. I have it on my car with the 993RS fixed tail for 5 years. It works great. You do lose some of the air induction 5000 RPM sound...you also lose some noise if you are facing a sound check.

Here's my solution from a few years ago:

Ok, got it. I didn't mean to question your results earlier, just wanted to hear different experiences. With the risk of sounding noob here, what is a "cup airbox"? Do you have a pic or a part number? HP gains can never be a bad thing .

Can you elaborate on this?

FWIW, I have never seen this snorkel on any 993RS or RSCS.
