Default Rear view mirror question

Hey everyone I just sold my rear view mirror on eBay and when it arrived at the buyers house he emailed me back and stated that I sent him an Audi mirror and it won't work because he needs a Porsche mirror. I am not saying the guy is wrong here I just want to know if Porsche ever used Audi rear view mirrors. I have never heard of this before. He wants a refund and that is fine with me I just want to be better informed if I have to relist the item. Have a good day.

Hey Mike- Out of curiousity, I took a look at mine and was surprised to see Audi's 4 rings embossed on the back of the mirror! On the back of the the passenger side of the mirror, there was some sort of large logo/marking with the number <01 10093>. On the driver's side of the back of the mirror, there was a simlar logo/marking with the number <02 10093>, then below that was the 4 rings and a number I couldn't quite make out, but think it read <4D0857511>.

Looking at PET (Illustration #809-10 in the Body section), it lists TWO different mirrors- one for Couple and another for Cab. Part number for the coupe is <477 857 511>, which roughly correlates to the <4D0857511> embossed on the back of the actual mirror.

477 857 511 is in the Volkswagen Audi Group part number format; a porsche part number is normally 11 digits long. So you're both correct.

There's a bunch of VW/Audi bits on the car. I also noticed the other day that the rearview mirror adjustment switch is a Saab part. Your ebay customer is going to be sending back a whooole lot of mirrors if he wants one that's got "Porsche" written on it...

Thanks for the help so far. I sent him a message to take a look at this thread. He is a member on the board as well. I think the issue is mine came from a cab and his is a coupe either way I am educating myself if I have to relist the item. It is good to know that someone didn't just hang an Audi mirror and that in fact it is OEM even thogh it was sourced from Audi.

I am the returning member - package sent today. It is interesting that Porsche outsourced so much stuff on the 993. Probably why the 993 when it was introduced was less expensive than the 964 it replaced (much to the chagrin of new 1994 964 buyers). Still not the mirror I was looking for though. Glad there is another buyer and FWIW the mirror is in excellent condition.

Default My 95' 993 rvw mirror numbers...

1E1 01 10093 one one side

IE 1 02*10093
OOOO (Audi rings) 4D0857511

GERMANY

BTW: I will sell this mirror cheap!

Maybe it's an audi p/n. Wouldn't be the first time - my 1975 911S had to take an Audi inline fuel pressure doodad that maintains fuel pressure after the engine has been turned off.

while on the subject ....has anyone noticed that the mirror gives a wide angled view of objects (cars are flatter and wider). the side mirrors are more realistic

Ok...you guys made me stand up from my cozy chair and to go to the garage and check mine. It is exactly as Marlon's and Mike's. Audi rings and all.

Out of curiosity, I also checked my Audi A4 mirror, and it has a VW stamp on it.

I guess German car manufacturers are not allowed by law to use their own mirrors.

I am a new owner and I noticed this too. If the image is wide, you get less actual information. On the other hand, if it showed normal, you would probably see a lot of the backseat/c pillars.

Either way, I don't like the distortion and I was thinking about replacing with something else.

Bob
