Relocating to NYC.
Hey everyone,
Just accepted a job offer in Manhattan so I will be moving around the end of this month. Would love to meet more of the Rennlist crowd up there and check out the various shops.
Unfortunately I will not be bringing my 993 along (unless some insanely cheap private garage pops up).
Any storage tips from you guys/gals who put the ride up for the winter months?

I use a *very* secure parking lot in hoboken. I think I am paying 220 dollars per month. Its a complete pain in the *** to go get the car, but it's affordable, I get to park it myself on the top (empty) floor.
Its 24 hours. So, up to you. It can be pretty annoying to head out there, but for me it means I can keep a 993, and I sleep at night knowing the dust cover is on, no one is ding-ing the doors or fenders, and its waiting for me for next weekend.
I hear there are good value parking lots on chelsea piers. I'd be tempted to investigate those also (not gotten around to it) I think there is a discout for NYC residents.... I think all in they're 280, which is cheap by NYC standards.
Cheers
Phil

Nice move.
Congrats on the new job.
I live in Manhattan as well and agree with most that parking can be a PITA, but not impossible.
Viable options is keep the P-Car parked out of Manhattan mainly because of cost unless cost is not an issue. Decide how often you'll drive and that will dictate where you want to park.
BTW, checkout these threads and see what you could do with your P-Car here:

Congrats and good luck on the new position Princeton.
We are opening a secure and climate controlled storage facility in a month or so in Morristown, NJ. Rates will be set shortly, and will vary for long-term vs. in and out storage. The Mid-Town Direct train on the Morristown Line puts you a couple miles away from the storage, with cabs available. PM me if you are interested.

I'm lucky enough to own one of five parking spots in my building in which to park my TT.
New York's a great place and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Welcome!

Hey Princeton,
Welcome to NYC! When I moved to NYC I left mine in Atlanta so that I have something to drive when I go to see my family . . . all the more reason to look forward to holidays! : )
There's a lot of storage threads out there, but I just make sure it's very clean, use a cover, store it indoors, change the fluids once a year or so, and use a battery maintainer. Runs like a champ every time. (For the first few years I didn't use to use a battery maintainer and never had dead battery problems even when I left it for 3 or 4 + months at a time, but the last few years with the battery maintainer it does spark up a little faster and probably isn't as tough on the battery.)
And be aware that if you're concerned about storage costs that your auto insurance for NYC will probably double. Although, that might be offset somewhat by registration fees depending on how TX determines those fees. (Registration is very cheap in NYC . . . $50 or $60 or so for 2 years. Atlanta used to be $500 or so per year.)
Best of luck

Just remember that the new yorkers mispronounce "Houston" Rather than correctly saying "hyuston" they have this really messed up "Howston"
