Has anyone thought about spraying the innards with a high temperature clear coat or the like, to prevent corrosion from the moisture contained in the exhaust gases?

Good thought, there has to be some treatment

I don't get this check valve replacement thing. At the 120K rebuild my original one was working ok, but I replaced it "while in there". Never had a CEL either. I'll have them take a look at it with the next oil change.
