Default authority chip on 1995 993

Dear all:

Just curious. I kept reading people posts stated that 1995 is a much easier car to Chip. I was wondering by putting the Authority chip in, how many horses would the car gain? Would it be comparable in term of torque and horse power to the later model?

I think you should be using 93+ on a stock chip. With an aftermarket chip, you definitely need the best gas out there.

No James, it only gets to 91 at stations where I live too (So-Cal). When I lived in Chicago I saw higher octanes.

I have an Autothority chip (real one, not a copy) for sale. Part # POR.01.993.200

$120 shipped takes it.

I had a Cyntex custom chip in my 95 993 when I bought it. It was detonating under heavy acceleration and I can't get higher than 92 octane around here. I put the OEM chip back and the detonation has stopped. Surprisingly, the performance hasn't seemed to drop off any.

There are two grades of chips available for 95' 993's from Powerchip, one is called Gold 93 for 93+ octane and one is called Gold 91 for the 91 octane we get in So Cal. Powerchip claims 16hp and 12ftlbs gain with the Gold 91 and 21hp & 17ftlbs with the Gold 93. Either chip is $390.00 from Performance Products. (no affil yada yada)

Compare that to the chip for the 96' which is $1490.00 and the chip for 97' & 98' 993's which are $990.00.

As far as performance increase, I have driven a 95' 993 with one installed and it seems to have a bit more midrange than my stock chipped 95' and in my best estimation is a good HP increase for the $$$.

How sad this reality is!! I need to add 5gallons of 100 [the balance of fuel 91] just to break even, so to speak, to technically satisfy stock ignition maps. Freakin' sucks!!

If you put these chips in a 95, is the immobilizer deactivated? That alone might be worth something to me...

Dont bother with the Autothority chip.. (I bought a used one from Borris..) it was ~mediocre at best. Get in touch with Steve @ Rennsportsystems and order up a GIAC chip..

I dont think they have any effect on the immobilizer.. it's a different system altogether..
