Default Immobilizer Remote Range Sucks!!!

Hello all,

The range capability of the two remotes for the immobilizer on my 1996 993 really stinks. I've got to have them right up next to the window to work the system even though I replaced the batteries in both of them recently. Kind of a pain when it's raining out.

Being a fairly new 993 owner I'm not real familiar with the immobilizer. Is there an antenna connected to it that could be damaged or missing, or is there another reason for the short range?

Also, I'm interested to know what kind of range you all get with your remotes.

TIA,

Mark

Mine is about 40 feet; it's a mix bag..do a search as it's been discussed not too long ago.

Yeah right.... 40 feet....maybe if you point the control at your chin while you point at your car with your left hand while standing on your right foot, and if a full moon is out...otherwise I get 2 feet at best.

I get about 2ft as well. It is kind of a PITA.

I know my Audi S4 was the same way, I found the factory antenna, & extended it, now it's got like 60ft range.

So where is the factory antenna located?

2 - 4 feet depending on the humidity, nearby magnetic fields, and sunspot activity.

Must be your magnetic personality that gives it that boost!

Okay. It sounds like my remotes (as in twoooo of them) aren't the only ones that suck. I'm glad I have company.

We have two remotes. Mine works well at six feet-the wife's works at what she says is ten feet. Differing methods of measuring I'm sure!

My remotes are around 6-10 feet. My wife's Pathfinder is about 100+ feet...I can get the horn to beep in a parking lot to locate the truck. I think the distance is inversely proportional to the cost of the vehicle (god that must be the geek speaking...).

Cheers,

Mike
