I might try to run the Brad Penn 0w30 this winter and watch the oil pressures, as it has a higher HTHS than m1 0w40. I'm due for an oil change anyways in the 964.

Huge variation in grades used, even between cars that are in same climates (assuming the grade is used year round). A few in Canada running 15W and higher, and I can only assume it gets freekin' cold up there.

We use, recommend, and sell both Brad-Penn and Swepco 306.

Its OK, albeit somewhat expensive. As long as one is willing to change it often enough, I have no problem with their product but I take issue with any recommendations that a high-end synthetic can be used for extended drain intervals as a cost-saving measure.

IMHO, its FAR better to use a good product like B-P or Swepco and change it a lot, compared to using a high-end synthetic for 10K+ miles.

Steve: what drain interval do you recommend for a street only 993, driven mostly around town, avg speed 45mph, 30-40 minutes each trip?

5W-40 syn ...
With the previous 15W-50 syn, consumption was ~1.5l/4500mi: switching to the 5W-40, I haven't added more than 1/2l in 4500 mi. Cannot explain - but will not complain either .

I recommend 3K oil changes to prevent lifter issues,....
