I think Steve had a '97 ECU available awhile back.....$1500 +/- maybe ?
Not to throw a wrench into the mix here.....but......would a new ECU from a 97-98 require a new Drive Block/Immobilizer as well ? Or, do these two systems operate independently from one another ??

Hi Keith:
LOL,..That one flew out of here pretty quick.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Those systems operate in concert with each other with respect to the Drive Block function. When replacing the ECU with another one, one can either have the immobilizer codes programmed into the replacement ECU (dealer operation requiring the car) or I can disable it in software.

Alright, well, somehow the Bosch part number is totally rubbed off -- I can't read a single number. But I did see the date stamp on the ECU -- 6/18/96. That's the final week or two of '96 model year production. So I guess to know for sure I'm going to have to pull the ECU out, and that's not something I'm going to do for a little while...
Mark, keep that pool going. Hope is alive!

You put the driver's seat as far back as it will go, and the ECU is the forward-most box under the seat -- it says "Motronic" right on top of it. Stick your head under there with a flashlight and you'll be able to see two stickers, one from Porsche the other from Bosch.

yup, its a 008, a '96 twin-chip ECU......
If this picky back chip idea is a Octane issue, we have 94 here in canada? Is there any other concern in doing this mod?

Its not an octane problem, at least to you good people living in the Great White North that have the good stuff,..
![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Its a mechanical/electrical integrity issue.

I'm at work now...but I am pretty sure it said "12/01/96"....probably January 96, cause the date stamp on my door sill says "1/96"...
Thing is, if some early 97's got the 96ECU becuase of inventory surpluses..., why would any late 96s get an early 97...doesnt make sense!

"Steve are these HP numbers correct 22hp with this mod."
Dream on! Lucky to get half that.
"When replacing the ECU with another one, one can either have the immobilizer codes programmed into the replacement ECU (dealer operation requiring the car)"
Do what?
This is a 993 and NOT a 996. There's NO programming of immobilizer codes
with the 993 DME ECM, as the 993 system only "looks" for a command from
the 993 immobilizer. Thus, the 993 system is not a true immobilizer system
as is the 996 system, i.e. there's a unique code for each vehicle for both the
immobilzer and the DME ECM.
