Default YOU CAN remap 96 ECU (extra 22HP)

Anyone here of tech 9 tuning. There is a guy in toronto that apearantly does this remaping for 993s. His catalogue shows that he can do a 1996 for $1100.

you end up with an extyra 22HP and 23 PFT.

any experisnce with this guy or tech 9?

Did I discover something new or were we always able to remap a 96?

Hmmmmm ... interesting. I've got a '96 993 cab ... but thought this was tough to 'get done'. The only one I ever knew of possibly being able to something was Steve Weiner at Rennsport here in the States. I have not heard of this operation. Anyone else?

It would be great if Steve Weiner would chime in here.

Kevin at Ultimate Motor Werks (a board sponsor) can work with '96 ECUs, but he only works on Turbos. So '96s CAN be done.

Interested to hear what you find. I won't believe anything without before-and-after dyno charts.

Do they remap/reflash or just do a piggyback? Piggybacks have been available for 96 ECUs but AFAIK they can't be reflashed. You can also replace the chip but they need to de-soldered unlike the MY95. 22hp/23torque seems optimistic

There is a shop in DFW that indicated they could do a '96 GIAC mod. I need to follow up, but I am anxious to hear from this thread also.

I am as well. Ive always been told you have to replace the entire ECU from a '97 or '98 at a cost near
2gs and that piggy back systems were bogus and unreliable.

Agree with David....22hp ?? Doubt it.

Cool Gas is the driver..

In Cali, the best pump gas we can buy is 91 octane. Some of the chips, or so I have heard, like the octane to be significantly higher...the knock sensors could go nuts under certain situations...retard the spark, and the power gains disappear.

Some musings,.....

The '96 cars use non-reflashable twin chipsets that are not available anymore. There IS a piggyback circuit board made by EVC that accepts a re-flashable chip (soldered-in) that gets attached to the main CB, but IMHO, they are not very reliable when we tested them in '98. I've redone 3 cars so equipped that item just in the past year. The '97 .376 ECU and the '98 .649 ECU's can be done; the '96 .008 ECU's cannot.

22HP from anyone's chip seems truly optimistic, even if specifically tuned for race gas. I have some experience in that regard,...

Aggressive efforts with ignition timing without the fuel octanes to support such tuning only results in knock-sensor activity to pull back the timing and a net LOSS of performance. In some cases, uncontrolled detonation occurs that damages engine components.

Final thought,....Caveat Emptor on such things,...
