I kinda feel bad for you guys. I have a 3 car garage but I only use 2 of the bays (993 and X5) and the third is for stroller, snow blower etc. I have to store my 1970 911 at a friends at least until I bring it home to restore it.

It's a PITA to have the three cars in this situation, as I been through the same thing without having a good spot out of the driveway for the third car. Every time you want to drive the 993, you need to move the BMW, pull out the 993 and move the BWM back as not to block the wife's access to the garage. Then do it all over again when you get home...

We had a similar dilemma w/ our new house so I had a concrete extension added to the side so that I wouldn’t have to jockey cars. Now the only problem is determining which car sits outside during the week. the G35 or the T-Reg. Usually it is the one that is dirtier.

Easy soultion - get rid of the wife!

Being more realistic - I also added an extension on my driveway so I can park my DD pick-em-up truck off to the side. That leaves room for my wife's car on one side of the garage, and my Targa and Duc on the other side.

I don't see how a lift would make life easier for you, other than keeping both out of the elements. No matter which car is on the bottom, you'll want the one on the top. Easier to just leave the DD outside and live with the swapping positions when necessary.

993 stays in garage with '76 2002. G35, M3 stays on driveway and Odyssey at curbside.

Think of it as extra theft protection for your Porsche.... at night

If you are really worried, get a outdoor car cover for the BMW....You do navigate in the Greater Metro DC area daily, right? Hard to imagine what the BMW is exposed to everyday......

Be grateful for the new home, keeping your fleet and try to help someone less fortunate every day....It works

The solution, at least for me, is to have the wife's car outside. The garage is only thing that is really mine, really. :-).

Here is how I do it:

The Porsche and my DD in the garage. The wife's car is on the driverway on the Porsche side, most of the time. The Porsche is not driven all the time (3-4 times a month). When I want to drive my Porsche, I simply move the wife's car to the other side of the driverway the night before (blocking my DD), or call and tell her to park on the other side when she comes home. This works out well, because when I drive the Porsche, I don't drive the DD. So it doesn't matter if t is blocked by the wife's car.

The problem is when I want to buy another car and not willing to sell any cars.

I think 007DT hit the nail on the head. That grassy area to the right of the driveway will make great 3rd car parking. Replace the grass with some cobblestone type pavers or something that goes with the neighborhood and you are good to go. They are also easily removable as well in case you later change your mind.

Good Luck.

I park my V8 X5 in the drive and under two fir trees which leads to forever having to clean sap off the black paint and glass. I have to move it every time I take my 993 out.... but it's worth it. I like my X5, but I love my 993!

Five cars, one trailer. No garage. Lots of trees. Chipmunks periodically eat the cabin filters. You think YOU have issues?

You guys are lucky. Here in The City our house has a two-car tandem garage; that is, one car parks deep into the garage, the other pulls in behind it. Single 8' wide door. And the driveway isn't really long enough to park a car without blocking the sidewalk.

Forget about the lift. The Bimmer can be outside as long as it's "protected" in the driveway. You have to do just as much jockeying with P-car on top and BMW on bottom as you do with P-car inside and BMW outside...

To show love for my car, I unceremoniously ripped the stairs off the back of my elevated deck, dug out some tire ruts, and parked my beat up F-150 underneath, totally hidden from the street and neighbors. My 993 now sits, caressed in semi-conditioned garage space, prey only to dust wafting down from the floor joists above...
