[QUOTE=mii..;4636845]
And lastly, I have no idea why the guages look the way the do. I have all the same lights as I do in my 95 but they light up behind the silver, there are no cutouts. How can you be sure they are aftermarket if it's a non U.S. vehicle, and why would anyone go through the trouble of changing them?
QUOTE]

Someone had to change all of the gauges to match when changing the speedo to MPH (from KPH). There is 18,000 miles on the MPH speedo since the car was imported in 2003, but how many kilometers driven BEFORE 2003?? From the condition of the interior and the fact that the car needed a total repaint, I'd be willing to wager that the actual mileage is alot closer to 118,000 than 18K...

To summarize: No records, no history, mileage unknown (but likely high), mix-and-match body panels, various non-oem and/or questionable components, total repaint that the owner in a previous post said wasn't that great. All of that is fine for a daily driver at the right price, but not the kind of vehicle that will fetch a premium. Currently, bidding at over $36K, but reserve hasn't been met. If I were him, I'd lower the reserve to match the current bid to make sure it gets sold.

My car has 122K and the interior looks at least that good, if not better.

The best part of the ad...."...The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defect herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith..." and "...I will continue to post any relevant info as it comes my way."

In Europe, only 94, 95 and 96 models have the G50/21 gearbox.
In Nov. 96 they switched to the G50/20 that we have in the US.

So for a model 97, unless it was built before Nov 96, it probably has the same "slow" ;-) gearbox the US models have.
The sticker under the hood, if it still exists, should show the gearbox type.
We may be able to tell from the VIN also (not sure though).

I guess the option sticker should also show where the car comes from. There's always a country code option, right ?

Edit : From the p-car VIN page http://p-car.com/vin.html , it looks like this VIN is an early 97 production (so it could still have the short ratio gearbox), and it should be a euro version, as it is in the range 10061 ~ 19000.

I take issue with the overall tone of hostility, suspicion, and maliciousness most of you have taken with me. I doubt that the creator of Rennlist intended for this forum to be used as a "lions den". There are a lot of things I don't know, but I do know how to behave like a human being. I also know that my opinion of my car, which I have driven and worked on is going to be a more accurate opinion because none of you have actually seen it in person. Everything you know is based on what I have told you, and you have made up all the rest. Who said this car was wrecked? Why the hell would I buy a wrecked car? This must be my 20th+ Porsche, I think by now I know how to pick out a simple car. I don't know why there aren't so many badges on the back but I do know that the main support beam is original and has no tool marks on it which means it was never hit, and never repaired. The badge that is on there does have the firing order and instead of mobil one sticker, it has some other sticker of some other company in another language. That's the thing with Euro cars, you can't just assume you know everything because these cars are shipped to dozens, and maybe hundreds of countries around the world. Not just Germany and North America. The car was weathered from being out in the sun and it is a shame, but I brought her back to life and I think I did a hell of a job. (I discussed it in great detail in my previous posts, it's no secret) If you don't think it's a good job, then you don't think so. She's mechanically perfect, no leaks, no smoke, everything works perfectly, the new owner will have nothing but joy and pleasure with this car. And lastly, I have no idea why the guages look the way the do. I have all the same lights as I do in my 95 but they light up behind the silver, there are no cutouts. How can you be sure they are aftermarket if it's a non U.S. vehicle, and why would anyone go through the trouble of changing them?

I'm tired of this. This forum is far too negative for my taste. It's another beautiful SoCal afternoon and I won't waste another key stroke on this mindless bickering.

This forum has been a terrible experience from start to finish.
What a total asshat
Entertaining thread to read though!

The best part of the Craigslist ad: $2000 deposit to drive the car!

This is a niche car for a special buyer that knows what he wants. To avoid dealing with tire kickers who just want to knock my car, I am enforcing the following terms: Have your funds available, or your pre-approvals in hand before inspections or test drives. All test drives will require a valid drivers license, valid proof of insurance, and a $2,000 cash bills deposit. All mechanical inspections must be done at my residence or place of business with my supervision. All technicians must be ASE certified and bonded and be prepared to provide proof.

This guy is an *** ... and is clearly looking for the proverbial "loser born every second" to bail him out and/or bend over.

Karma baby ... karma.

He must've been born on one of those seconds.

From a thread comparing production dates to VINs awhile back, this looks to be a mid/late November to early December build date.

If I knew how to attach links, I'd attach a link to the VIN thread. But, alas, I'm a computer idiot.

Darn - I missed this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity...

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.
