O/T: Alpine Road Trip - Sorry but many pictures
Hi,
We went on an Alpine road trip, covering:
Ruf at Pfaffenhausen.
Interlaken: Lauterbrunnen Valley, Jungfrau Mountain.
St. Moritz: Corvatsch and Corviglia Piz Nair) areas.
Bolzano, Vols: Italian Dolomite area. Compatsch High Plateau of the Seiser Alm Aple Di Siusi region.
Kitzbuhel: Nothing special as we hit bad weather.
Garmisch Partenkerchen: Zugspitze, Neuschwanstein Castle.
And finally Munich. We drove close to 1,250 in 11 days.
We honey-mooned in Europe 25 years ago, and drove 4,400 miles in 5.5 weeks there. The images of the Bavarian and Alpine villages stayed with us forever. So for our 25th anniversay, we went back and covered the Alpine scenic spots that we missed back then. This is most definitely the trip of our lives.
We drove an Audi A-3 turbo-deisel. Incredible little car with a lot of go. I did not drive very fast as it came with VCBS (voice command braking system, read: wife in passenger seat). So I did not get to thoroughly enjoyed the Autobahn. But then most of the miles were on scenic country roads anyways. The drive over the Susten Pass was truly incredible. We went over the St. Gothard pass in 1982, and we tried a different one this time. All in all, this is a driving trip I highly recommend.
Oh, and million thanks to Terry Adams for enlightening us with the Garmin Nuvi GPS system, and loaning us his Europe map. Without it we would never make it. The best/unique feature is that it tells us the name of the street. or highway, to turn onto. So in Europe, when they have 3 streets within 100' of each other, we still made the correct turns. A must-have in my book now.
So without further adieu, here are the pics. They are not in any particular order or with caption. Hope you indulge my extravagence as there are just too many beautiful sights to share. Sorry for dial-up users.

Great story and pics Pong. We rent the Audi A-3 turbo-diesel every time we go. Big enough to survive on the A-bahn, small enough to fit in most European parking spaces, frugal. I have the VCBS in all my cars.

Pong, looks like a great trip and thanks for the great pictures. Our family took a tour of Germany this summer and were in Garmisch and saw Neuschwanstein and Zugspitze so your pics brought back some very pleasant recent memories. The rest of your Alpine tour has given me ideas on what to do for our 25th anniversary, which comes up next year. Even though we honeymooned in Acacpulco and Cancun, I've always loved the mountains so replicating some of your trip seems very intriguing. I think my wife might even go for the RUF stop. Thanks.

Having taken a trip (Trafalgar tours) with the missus - a couple of years back - to (include) Jungfrau Mtn. etc. etc. - these pix certainly brought back GREAT memories.

Pong,
Looks like you went to many of the same places that me and Larry visited! You had better weather at Neuchwanstein than we did too! Really brings back memories seeing those pictures! Looking forward to seeing you Friday!

Chris,
You're like 31 years old, right? I had to wait till I'm 56 years old for this. So like one old doctor's advice to a young doctor: Patience, is all you need, my son.....
