Default Looking for input of where to mount the V1 remote display

I saw the post where the remote unit had been placed in the ashtray, but was looking for other ideas as well (I use my ashtray for change/cash).

It needs to be mounted somewhere close to where I can reach it easily, be hidden from cars behind me and not block any of the other gauges or buttons. That's not too much to ask, right?

I don't have the on-board computer, so Robin's DIY is out.

Any other suggestion or pictures of where you mounted yours would be appreciated.

TIA

I mounted my V1 remote on the outside of the cigarette ashtray door. I mounted it fairly low so that it is viewable from the drivers seat, but not to obvious from outside the car. The wiring is behind theconsole switxches, so it made it very convenient to mount the remote there. I attached it with the velcro strip Vaentine provided.
Sorry I can't supply you with a photos, but my digital camera is at my other house.

That's exactly what my DIY in the tach was for, cars without OBC.

I guess I'll have to look at it again. I though it replaced the OBC screen. Either way, I'm not brave enough to take apart my gauge.

Just put it right in front of the tach, attached with mounting tape to the plastic steering column trim. The trim removes for an easy cable run under the dash.

Default V1 remote position

I tried a lot of different places in my M5, but I found that you really need to have the display somewhere that is clearly visible (not down in the instrument cluster). The beauty of the V1 is the type of data that you get (direction, # of threats, bands, etc)... you really need to see that information quickly, and with the radio on loud, you may not hear the brapp right away. I placed on the dash crunched up behind the pillar and the inspection stickers. I attached with velcro. Hard wire tucks behind the dash when not in use. see pic

I use the "hand over V1 warning lamps" method when I think I'm being followed by a cop.. those remotes are a bit, um.. kludgy.. extra wires, it's almost not worth it.. I kinda wish the V1 had a "dark" mode.. there are a few websites who mod them and make them a bit more stealthy... Christ, for all the quality in the V1, somebody should school those guys in ID- The ergonomics and human-factors of the V1 are pretty lame.. No dimming settings, no "dark" mode, lame display, oversight on not being able to view which band is active when it's dark, (the bands are printed near the led's) rough overall fit and finish; overall, it's a D- on the ID scale. A+ on function tho-

Please, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel...

Actually, I have the V1 remote display in my Audi and I found a very nice place for it, so it blends in very well and all the wiring is hidden. I'm not having so much luck in finding a spot in the 993.

A little pricey, but I bought it anyway.
Thanks for the link.

+3 on the in front of tach on steering column mount. Wires are very easy to hide, most direct line of sight. I recently did the inside tach (P-car) installation and am pretty happy with it. I opted not to pull the button out, I just do not push it anymore.

Default Another placement

I have posted this before...I just know it!

It is easy to mute and not hard to see.

I guess there's no place that's highly visible to you but not to the officer standing at your window... Cops don't like radar detectors.

No mentions yet of the V1 mirrors. Of course I've never seen one for 993s (and then you have to deal with the wire going up the window, but interesting to see. Here is one for the Elise.
