Cupholder for 993 - any ideas out there???

When you are driving such a high performance vehicle you should minimize distractions, forget about a cup holder altogether, I also taped over the clock for this reason.
Obviously remove the radio faceplate, or at least leave it turned off, although the fewer tempting buttons to push the better, so I go with removing the faceplate.
I also suggest removing any clothing that could cause you to slide around too much in the seat—usually, this means pants.
Shirtsleeves, even short ones, can inhibit quick steering, so try removing your shirt also.
Keep the windows rolled up to minimize any sonic distraction.
I find I am the most focused while sitting in the car in the garage. This eliminates the distraction of moving scenery; the visual impact of objects coming toward me is quite distracting. Leaving the motor off in the garage eliminates sonic distraction and prevents CO build up. (I suggest claning the garage first to minimize visual clutter.)
In the shade of the garage with the motor off it stays rather cool, this helps prevent dehydration and therefore minimizes the need for liquid in the passenger compartment. Another benefit is, it’s very easy to open the door, exit the vehicle, have a glass of water then return to the vehicle with minimum loss of time or interruption.
I find this is one of the safer ways to use your 993.
However due to the fact that most accidents happen within a few miles of home, I occasionally take it for a drive. Once I am a safe distance—20 or 25 miles from my house—far enough that the odds are more in my favor, I will then uncover the clock, turn on the radio, and have a sip of water in the car. I know it is risky behavior, but I feel these cars are to be enjoyed.

I've solved this relatively simply: welding 3-inch steel plate over every transparent surface of the passenger compartment. Really helps me focus on the driving...by using the Force!

Prestige Parts cup holder pictures
I decided to order the cup holder suggested earlier in this thread by Tropheus. It's from Keith at http://www.prestigeparts.co.uk/993.htm. It's a nice solution, fits perfectly in the space where the cassette holder was in my car. The top is covered with leather (classic grey in mine). Keith was easy to deal with and I received the unit in about a week. I'm posting some pictures for those that may have interest.

you say "the prestigeparts.co.uk/993.htm cupholder is a nice solution, fits perfectly in the space where the cassette holder was in my car".
Q: I use that space to store a case for sunglasses and the odd paper (dry cleaning pick up, and such) and already find that it interferes with my elbow space -- part of that maybe due to the fact that I am 6'6" and the 993 is a snug fit to begin with. Do you feel this takes away from 'your space', especially when shifting? Whatwith all the focusing on the driving part of the 993 experience suggested in this thread

Got mine from Keith 2 weeks ago and love it. Fits perfect and gets rid of that broken cassette holder.
I'm only 6'2", but it doesn't get in my way at all. Actually, its better than having the cassette holder as far as comfort on the elbow. I would recommend this to anyone.

you are correct -but i buy coffee at a drive thru every morning to take to work-not to drink. It's a lot safer for me to have a place for the cup vs try to hold it and drive-
