and let me add mine for the very little that it is worth . A car is a sacred thing given to man to honor and respect . Eating or drinking (with the exception of taking water on a long trip) is sacrilege, and in a Porsche, unthinkable . And where will it all end? With someone holding hot coffee between their laps and suing Macdonalds. Heck, they should have also sued the car manufacturer for not providing proper cup holders as I did not realise so many people like to eat and drink in their cars, and their parents for not providing them with an IQ above room temperature and their school for not finding a way to equip them with any sense to live. Only in America, and then Australia and then....

I am glad I did not get too serious and carried away with this - but drinking in a such a fine automobile.... sad very sad .

I have the OEM Porche cupholders. They are leather clad (I ordered black ones, but they arrived Grey - no biggie), and clip onto the rim of the door bins. Oh god are they bad (you can't drive if you have a drink in one on the driver's door) and obviously an after-thought, but if you're driving alone, you can clip it to the passenger's side: the cars are narrow enough that it's not much of a stretch.

The first time I put a full water bottle in it, the bottle came up and out and launched sideways on a fast corner.

What I'd love to have is something more like a water bottle cage--something that retains the drink tightly under all the conditions that a 993 can generate.
I've seen people adapt the drink bottle holder from a bicycle in their cars to hold their water bottles.
Does exactly what you wanted and there are some pretty snazzy bicycle bottle holders out there. Even some Carbon Fiber ones.

Dan,

Thanks for the feedback on the double drink holder. Could you make any comments on how well it looks with the interior of your car? It states upholstered in black only; I am wondering if the top of the unit would need to be dyed to match the interior (classic grey in my case) or is it okay as is? I know the Bird armrest can be ordered in any color but it seems pretty pricey...

http://www.ultimatecupholders.com has some nice looking steel units that use the sides of the console as the mounting point but they aren't available for 993s (yet).

Regards,
David

Focus on driving? I don't know about you guys, but I don't need any LESS hydration when I'm driving than at any other time. Not talking about balancing a triple-frapa-latte on the dash, just water. How about you tell that marathoner to shut up about the drink and focus on his running?

Or the F1 driver who has a drinking-straw near his mouth.

I have a hot young blonde cup holder. I strongly recommend you try to find a similar one rather than sticking a piece of plastic to your purpose built interior.

DMWALLACE - sent you a PM re: cupholder.

For the rest of you purists, I find it hard to believe the German design gods would not approve of adding a drink holder to a 993. These cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. Moreover, on a long drive, I find a cup of coffee helps me stay alert - it's not a distraction, it's an aid to good driving. Spilling hot coffee on your leg is pretty distracting too, so it's nice to have a place to put the cup. If that means I have to genuflect to the ghost of Dr. Porsche then I think I've seriously misunderstood his purpose in building these cars...
