What's the deal here? Does he hate the 993 or something? Does anybody know of any '98 C2S that they would sell me for the values he publishes?
Low: $23,135
Good: $26,304
Excellent: $35,213
I'll take 4 of each, please.

It would hurt to email and ask him. Maybe a group "ask"?

I have asked multiple times in the form of letters to Excellence. Got no response. Have not tried asking him directly.

The prices they quote are terrific deals! If only I can find out where those deals are, as someone actively looking for a Porsche.

If you then read "Reader Reports" of the prices on the market, some are in their quoted range, most are above their prices, and then their comments usually are "...and we'll allow a 10% above our price for an excellent condition car in low mileage...." to account for the market prices being much higher than theirs.

Anytime I have emailed Bruce I have gotten a prompt reply. I think he uses a couple of sources for his prices, to include the "Reader Reports." The Excellence website has his email address, drop him a note.

I think all of his values are what he would like to pay for a car.

I have not seen one example of a correct value out of his report. I skip over that section in the magazine. The rest of Excellence is excellent.

I did see the Reader Sales report for the 1998 S with 29K miles...purchased for $55K...Anderson's comment was "clearly the seller did well"..."trade well outside our normal estimates"...WTF? ....is there a 29K mile "S" that has sold for ANYTHING below $35K in the last 2 years ANYWHERE????

I'll give him one thing...his estiamtes help with the state tax calculation...but my guess is insurance companies love him too.

It's obvious that either he hasn't really follow the market or he has lost touch with reality.

as someone who has had some correspondence with him and know someone who knows him really well,--worked for him for years at Garretson where I used to have my 911s serviced---- the last half of addict's last comment is pretty accurate.

I'll admit, I thought the same thing when I read that appraisal. For some reason, he doesn't accept or won't factor the reality that 993's command high prices due to their desirability as the last and BEST of the air/oil cooled Porsche. Sometimes I think he's in tight with Porsche corporate. Of course, they'd preach "buy the newest Porsche you can afford..."

I'll have one of the 'good' ones at 26K USD please. I'll pay for shipping.

Thx,

he must be assuming 9,000-10,000 miles a year for those prices. back in 2003 when I bought my c2s it was a bit more accurate- although the values then he actually admitted went up slightly in 2002-2003 for the 993.

Has anyone suffered damages from Excellence's ridiculously inaccurate prices (other than Anderson's reputation)? Could an insurance company cite Excellence trying to lowball a claim?

It's not so much damages...more frustration. I'm relatively new to the Porsche world. The same story as most, I wanted one since I was 10, and finally was able to start looking. As a subscriber to Excellence, it was the only decent publication I could find with the valuable information they provide. Based on his values, I began shopping with wildly unrealistic expectations. It took me a few months to realize that it was impossible to buy a light-colored 993 6 speed coupe in Florida for less than $30K. I would have approached the search differently if I had known the true value of a good 993, saving me lots of time and effort.
I have begun composing an email to him, but I wonder if it might be better articulated by someone with a little more 993 knowledge than a first time (5 month) owner...

Just the opposite. It's easy to accuse us 993 owners of bias, wanting to pump the value of our cars. You're a buyer--cash in hand--making actual offers (not just asking prices) and finding nothing that remotely compares to BA's nonsense numbers.
