Porsches in Marina del Rey
I'm on a layover in LA today, my hotel is in the Marina del Rey area, and I can't believe how many 911's I've seen. Several times today I saw a group of three 997's turning around in front of my hotel on Admiralty. I'm not really sure what that's about. During my walk this morning I saw three 997's, one 996, a 993, three boxters, and three Cayennes. I would like to see more 993's though. Back home I get excited if get to see one 911 when I'm out driving. :-)

I heard there are 8 Porsche Dealerships in LA. I read a recent article about how Porsche pulled out of the Detroit Auto Show, citing lack of customers in that area, and put more emphasis on the LA Auto Show. Don't know what the numbers are, but I would guess there are about as many Porsches in California as the other 49 states.

I am in the Army and have traveled all over the United States, traveled in Europe, Asia, and Australia and lived in Germany and Korea (and one lovely year in Iraq;-)). I have never seen more Porsches than in California. I live in Illinois right now, and people see my 993 and think I have some super exotic car. I always feel the need to explain that as a native Californian Porsches are common place. Spend a day driving around San Francisco; Boxsters are like Chevys and 911s are on almost every corner.

Yes, of course there are tons of Porsches as well as every other high-end car and classic here in SoCal, the car and bike capitol of the galaxy.
Add to that the fact that Pacific Coast Highway runs right through Marina Del Rey via Lincoln between two mega high-rent neighborhoods of Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach, the weather's been great, it's a holiday week...I would expect nothing less than a rolling car show!

Porsche is the Honda Civic of LA.
Only other place I've seen even close to as many as here is the West End of London (and I don't mean Ontario, CA!)--similar money to car craziness ratio.
Another interesting fact: Newport Beach has the highest per household ratio of Bentleys in the world--thats where the real money is.

Marin County has to be high up there in p-cars per capita. Up here my 993 is ghetto. Maybe I'll throw on some Daytons... or some spinners... hells yeah.
Ghetto and proud.
