My guess is they had to replace the lid and found a 95 lid that was painted the same color.

The owner seemed to think it came from the factory like this. Note that the basket handle has no light! Such a part doesn't exist per the porsche parts katalogue / PET.

That's the first handle I have ever seen without lights, but I have seen a 95 with both top and handle 3rd brake lights before.
It was not a factory installation, the top light was installed by the owner and was a factory part, at the time he was waiting to delete the handle when he had enough $$ for the filling of the handle mounting holes and re-spray of the deck lid.

I saw that but I wasn't sure if the PO black out the light or what. The Handle looks like it has the same shape as the factory handle with the 3rd light mounted in it. Pictures not close enough to see all the details.

What's going on inside, with those chrome handle-looking things?

Belt Harness mount for AutoXing or DE. So you can have a shoulder harness.

Ahhh, OK. Thanks for the info - I've never driven on anything other than a street. I should get out more.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal to fill the area where the light used to be. That's my guess, although I don't know why you would want to.

I saw a 96 coupe in San Fran that had a basket handle w/light in addition to the normal upper brake light. I assume it had the rear decklid replaced.

I think we saw the same one, it was at Cars Dawydiak (then the owner listed it on Craigslist). Silver tiptronic? I asked the owner about it, but he had no clue, he had bought it for his then girlfriend (now ex). I took to look at the engine to make sure he had not made a mistake.

Doesn't seem right to fill & shape the basket handle when it would be easier to fill the holes left after removal...?

Yes, that's the one! He was trying to sell that one for about a year -- exactly the sort of owner I avoid like the plague...

I seem to recall one of the aftermarket spoiler companies offer a bolt on basket handle for the earlier models. (But no way am I interested enough to go research it... )
