Default 993 pics from SD Autox last weekend

The PCA San Diego Autox last Saturday was a good one - nearly 140 participants. Even with that many drivers, we all got quite a bit of dirve time. Thought I'd post a few photos (swiped from www.pcasdr.org) and show off the 993 contingent..and a couple of others.

Here's my nemesis.. I mean David Gardner's car. He was the fastest 993 of the day and 0.23 seconds faster than me:

Here's RL'er David Ray's car w/ recent bodywork upgrades looking good out there:

Not a 993, but this Smurfy looling 911 from the Kinningers took 1st place, as usual:

This GT2 that I hear normally dominates the Orange County Autox took 2nd place:

Here's a really nice 993. Oh wait...that's mine...

RL'er mrp911's 993:

A turbo:

Some more 993's:

Best number of all:

Here's RL'er zombieporsche44 who took 1st in his class:

And RL'er Touf, who was only mice nuts behind him (0.02 seconds) in the same class:

All in all, it was a really fun day and ran relatively smoothly, especially considering the large number of participants.

Nice pics. Good to see so many 993s in one place be driven hard. Thanks for posting.

Default David Ray is in for a surprise....

the first time he takes that 993 with the 993RS CS tail to the big track with those puny 993RS spoilers...monster under steer in turn 8 at WSIR...ask me how I know.

I had the same tail and same splitters on my 993 car. I went zooming into turn 9 with 9 degrees of down angle on the wing and prepared to turn..input steering to the wheel, and the car said...not today...today we are going straight off because the car is out of balance, added weight to the rear(Some degree of downforce) none on the front. The repairs only cost me about $800, a cheap lesson by Porsche standards.

The 993RS splitters do not provide downforce, they only minimize lift. At 165 mph, a speed we will seldom see, the 993 RS CS wing at 9 degrees of down angle, is good for 165 Lbs of down force...the 993 RS CS front splitters will minimize front lift to about 35 Lbs, the same as the 993 RS splitters coupled with the correct 993 RS tail.

The point of all this, be very thorough in your research as you add aero devices to your 993. The factory stuff was sold in packages. I am guilty as the next guy. I am running David Ray's old 993 Aero Kit 1 tail. I hope it will be a good match for my 993 RS splitters...we'll see. The surface area is somewhat similar...and I wanted a new look for my car.

The Aero Kit 1 tail is non-adjustable...I think the match will be pretty close. If it doesn't work...in about an hour I can have the 993RS tail back on the car...an easy change...just need some 9mm sockets.

Shannon: nice profile of the 993's. We're all getting pretty close NS and NP. Less than 1.6 seconds difference between us all.

Martin: RSCS splitters are being readied by Qualtech / Victory Paint as I write. Just had to get out there with the other guys in between body work!! Great fun. Enjoy that piece of tail. The car is getting dialed in and I have them in my sights!!!

Cool pics...before Martin pointed out the downsides of combining the RS splitters with the huge tail I was thinking your car looks better with just the RS wing back there. So whats the verdict on running fast on the track with RS splitters, no RS side skirts and just the stock automated wing back there? Anyone know how that effects things? And while I'm hijacking this thread I was also wondering if having the engine tray off makes the front / back downforce worse? I sold a replica turbo tail that came with my car since I thought it looked a bit out of place but wondered how the car would react on a track without it once it was gone.

Cool I know this answer...

My neighbor, who has a 993, and had the RS front splitters, the RS side skirts and the factory stock tail...we went to a POC TT at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond. As you know it can get a little windy there...don't know if wind was in the equation. All I know is that his car came loose in Turn 8 and he did a 360...it later came loose in Turn 1.

The following week, he ordered his 993 RS tail from Getty Design, and the rest is history. It seems that we need to match up spoilers or ask for trouble.

David Ray (above) has a 993 RS Club Sport tail. He is getting the 993RS CS front spoilers to match. Good move David!!!!

I have his old 993 Aero Kit 1 tail with 993 RS splitters. I am not too worried about that mix...the Aero Kit 1 tail is not that bigger surface area than the 993 RS tail...and it is a new look for my "poseur" car.

It was a great event with all the rennlist 993 drivers finishing in the top 15 or so out of 136 cars, we only lost to essentially full blown race cars again proving that the 993 chassis when set up properly, is still one of the best ever designed by Porsche.

And we as a group, also beat every 2004 GT-3 & even a 2007 GT-3.................god that's satisfying!

ZP44

PS: FYI.....Touf lost by .03 sec not .02......LOL.....Touf, I'll see you on the track next Wednesday for a re-match!

Seems like a super small margin of victory. Do they have lazer timing or some guy with a stopwatch?

We (PCA-SDR) have an extremely sophisticated "official" electronic timing system, especially made for next week's "Porsche Parade"! Yea, yea, yea, second place is still first looser so it's not that good! Third place is even worst! We did fail to mention that we serve beer and wine to all losers and winners after the event!

Watch out for the Zombie….are you going with Starbucks, Redbull or Monster on Wed? Want to use my car.....?
