Default How long do Rotors last?

I have a 95 993cab with 40k miles and am having the car serviced and was told it needed pads and rotors before the next 2000 miles or so. Seems strange as I had a 82 911sc with 70k miles and just replaced pads and the rotors were still fine at 70k miles. I do not track the car.

This is a real "it depends" - I've heard/seen rotors get replaced below 40k and up to 75k. Are they warped/grooved? That might drive the recommendation.

depends on how hard and how often you use the brakes

Both pads and rotors have a minimum allowed thickness. Do you know if the shop measured that and if so, what those measurements are? If not, I would ask for those measurements or at least ask the shop what they are basing their recommendation on.

My Zimmermans lasted 25k. They were on when I bought the car.

No track use and I even turned them 1x.

Wow, here's a blast from the past. See you're still kickin' Kelly. Hope all is well.

Sorry for the hi-jack, back to the topic.

To give you an idea of how "it depends", I used to go through 2 sets in 12 DE events when I had stock 993 brakes. Now with Big Reds, I am 8 events on the first set, and still going.

Mine were gone at 53K miles. No track and a minimum of hard street driving...

Aloha Chris... Yes, sold the 993, but have never really left the forum. Without a doubt, this is one of the most (for the most part ) well behaved, informative and polite forums on the web. I really like the people here and try to give back what little I know about these great cars.

Hope all is well with you too, brah!!

Replaced the front rotors at 60k, rears are in need of replacing now at 105k. Daily driver, 1 may be 2 track days per year.

Original rotors (2nd set of pads), clutch at 90k miles... All on their last leg.

So depending on the driver and what it is used for.

85k miles w/ original rotors & clutch. Now on second set of pads. Rotors are getting close to needing to be replaced, but my clutch still feels good.
