Default Shift **** Insert

Hello All,

I have the rootwood shift **** on my Targa, the leather shift pattern had worn away to nothing. I found the perfect replacement from board member Joe Jackson (username). Joe hooked me up with a polished stainless steel insert that matches the **** perfectly. It took some slight mods to get it to fit since this is made for the standard leather **** but I LOVE the results. See below and tell me what you think.... Thanks Joe!

Also, for those with cracked and damaged wood items. I had an unsightly chip and crack on my ****. Using a dremel, I grinded and smoothed the area around them and then filled them with a product called Enviro Gloss. Its a thick polyurethane that is frequently used to coat wood plaques. It filled in all the areas perfectly. I then sanded with 1000 grit paper and polished to a perfect shine. The results were perfect, no signs of the former cracks or damage. Just wish I took some before images

Did you pick up the insert at Hershey? They were selling them there. The finished result is
superb.

Rennlist member Joe Jackson designs and makes these. He shipped this out to me after I pm'd him. This was superb quality (heavy stainless steel) and is available polished and brushed. He also has 5 speed and turbo insignias. Gotta love when one of our own steps up to fill a need.

Guy,

That looks great. It's about time I replace mine also. How is this insert applied? Glue or a clip?

Just as in the case of the original, it presses in place. I used a small amount of friction tape around the insert to keep it firmly in place. A piece of advice....when removing the old insert, do it by removing the **** and placing a screwdriver and knock it out from the backside. Don't pry the insert or you'll crack the ****

Price was $35 plus $3.00 to ship I believe. Worth every penny.....

Not sure if this will fit a 996 shifter. Maybe Joe Jackson can answer that, shoot him a pm.....
