Have searched to no avail. Can anyone recommend a good/trustworthy independent mechanic in South Florida. I am in Coral Gables, and wouldn't dream of taking my new baby ('97 993 Cab) to The Collection near my house. Any recommendations would be appreciated. BTW, just maintenance stuff at this point, but wanted to build a relationship with a good shop for the future.
Thks.

Try Richard Danver Auto in Hallandale. He has a little shop and he does all work himself and seems really capable and not to mention honest, he has been working on Porsche only since the 80's. 954-455-0404 is his number.

Do a search and see how they treated a good friend of mine who's car was in for service (and was wrecked by the technician)!
Besides. My car is 10 yrs. old and I am sure that they no longer see many of her vintage for service. My personal opinion is that I will probably get better service at less expensive prices, and avoid unnecessary issues, if I go with a reputable independent.
Please let me know if/why you feel otherwise.
BTW, I have purchased several cars from the Collection over the years, although I never felt I got a particularly good deal (it has really been a dealer's market here in S. Fla for some time). My last new Porsche purchase was an '05 Cayenne Turbo, which I bought from Champion, who bested the Collection's deal by almost $3k! Got treated like crap by the Collection when I took it in for service --ie. never given a loaner--even though I had bought 2 other Porsches from them in the previous 5 years.

I don't know Florida, but if you are within 300 miles of Viper Bob, it would be worth it... many times over. See if you can find him and PM him. He's a site sponsor... I think. One of the nicest guys, best and most trustworthy wrenches out there.

My brother in law works at the Collection, my understanding is that the owners are Italian businessmen, not particularly "car" guys, so I am guessing their culture is more oriented towards making $$$$.
They have a really nice facility however.
Incidentally, my Brother in law sells Audis and has nothing to do with either Service or Porsches there.

Jay Putnam in Delray Beach - 561-272-8380, or Foreign Affairs Motorsports in Pompano Beach - Bob Varela 954-746-0488. Jay worked on my 968 and Bob will be working on my 997, if my brother gets a 993 Jay will work on it.

Hi ggroll, welcome ! I´m in Miami (Key Biscayne) and just got my first Porsche (a 993 96) 2 weeks ago. I´ve been doing research on this for the past 6 months. Thanks to a few Porsche Enthusiasts in Miami I was able to find Rennlist, a good PPI shop in CA where I bought my car and also a good independent Porsche shop in the Miami area. My car just finished a full service (including clutch replacement) and I appreciated the quality of the service. I recommend Butch Stokes (same one Flying Finn recommends above) Butch retired and Justin Stokes took over. He works by himself in a small shop. It si now called Stokes Automotors (He worked with Butch a Veteran Porsche Mechanic, for 15 years) Phone: 954-458-0044. It´s 40 minutes drive from Coral Gables on I-95 (not bad). Very honest, no BS and fair price on service. You can mention my name as a referral. Scott Finlay (in front of Sunset Place and very conveninent for you) was also referred to me but I never went there.
Good luck and let me know if can be of any help ! Cheers, Luciano
