While it may be considered a step down by some, I believe the standard 964 5speed is a better geared box than the 993 6speed. A low cost viable option that would work quite well the the additional power and torque of the 993.

Guess I have to disagree w/ the proponents of 5spd.
One of the reasons I posted the flexibility chart was to include the 2K rpm speed. W/ mine 6th is very useable in daily driving, has the strictly decreasingly small splits and a reasonable top end.
Here is a comparison of 6spds vs. 964RS
can't argue w/ the cost side untill you put it into perspective w/ engine mods.

YIKES! What dose a re-gear run? I have a 2nd gear syncro that fubar and was thinking about this mod, having heard about it. I think the gearing in my 964 makes it feel faster than the 993 (even though it's clearly the HP leader).
I don't think I can stomach $11k for the true RS gearbox... ouch.. makes me hesitate to want to know what the regear will cose me....

I don't understand why someone would want a std. 964 box over a std. 993 box....
In my 964 redline is at 134 or 135 mph in 4th. I don't even use 5th at Summit or MO, and sometimes at VIR either. I would rather have a regular 993 6 spd, than what I have, at least there would be some pull in 5th....and a lot more in 4th I would think.
Am I missing something?
