yes, they were hand made, but they were not hand painted. that part of the process was automated.
It reminded me of the great video "Made by Hand" shot at the Porsche factory (Reutter back then) on the 1960's summer...movie shows a 356B T5 passing through the assembly line...from sheet metal to test drive...it makes me cry!!!
As far as paint process...body attached to rotisserie...Hans and Fritz wearing WWII gas masks and painting everything around, including themselves...that was "Hand Made"!!!

How that would be possible ? remember that was the 993 line production that save Porsche financially...so...perhaps the term "Japanese made" it's more appropriate
I think the Vatican serves hand-made kosher popcorn freshly blessed by the Pope. I've seen pictures of the regular popcorn going down the same container filling line as the hand-made kosher stuff.
