Please have a look at this-I posted to the 964 forum but noticed there were more LSD topics on the 993 board,
Thanks,
Kevin.

All,
I have just in the process of importing a 964 RS from Germany and one of the things I noticed on the test drive was a click from the powertrain when coming on and off the gas.
The click is only present when turning in and not when driving straight, it is therefore not coming from the driveshatfs.
Also when I checked out the car in the vendor's workshop I jacked up each wheel in turn and spun them to check that they were true, I now notice from this month's 911 and Porsche World that if the LSD is healthy I should not be able to spin the rear wheel at all when only one side is jacked up, is this true?
Is there a simple test to check the LSD is healthy?
If it needs repair can it be done in situe?
I am happy with all the usual RS gearbox chatter but this is something different.
Never had a car with LSD before. please help!!!
The car has 50k miles and has hardly been on track.
Thanks,
Kevin.
Thanks,
Kevin.

Also, you are correct - you should not be able to freely spin one rear wheel while the other is stationary. Sounds like no LSD, worn LSD, or the factory clutch-type LSD has been replaced with Quaife style torque-biasing diff...

Sadly it is the one thing I didn't check! I have had two 964C2 before so went overthe car with a fine tooth comb but neither of my cars had LSD so I didn't even think to check it.
Legally I probably dont have a leg to stand on but I might get 9m to look at it and try to appeal to Tom's sense of honour......I did ask him about the clicking noise during the test drive but he just said it was the LSD, as if this were completely normal.
By the way once the LSD is rebuilt will it still make the clicking noise when coming on and off the gas whilst turning in? or does the noise indicate wear?
Thanks,
Kevin.

The majority of noise issues from the LSD that I have heard seem to be from the 20:100 LSD used in 964 and 965. I wonder if the movement of the plate that allows the asymmetric lockup may be more extreme in that diff. cauing the noise described.
I have a PMS 40:65 and have had the normal 993 25:65, neither made any noise.
