Default 993 Navigation install.. speed sensor?

Howdy all. Installing a single din multi-function head unit with Navigation, the JVC KD-NX5000. One of the inputs is one for 'speed sensor'. Apparently this helps, along with the GPS, to calibrate the location more accurately. I see in a repair manual there is a 'speed sensor' on the underside of the car, but I don't think that's what I want, or at least I hope not.

I've read a couple things but not sure which is right. One said there's a red/white wire on the back of the climate control(huh) that I can splice into, another pointed to a particular pin on the computer's harness and one thing i read said to splice into a wire off the speedo.

Anyone else had to connect a nav system to a 993's 'speed sensor', (or a makeshift equivalent)?

Thanks to all. Promise to post pics once it's done, it should be sweeeeet !!(said like cartman ).

Yes, the best way is to slice through a coule of pins on the back of the CCU.
One for the speed signal, and one for the Reverse signal as well. Some do not hook to the reverse,
but if you live in a city, not hooking the reverse signal will sometimes trouble the gps.
Do a search for the pin numbers behind the CCU, it has been discussed thoroughly here.

Just viewed the CNET video of the unit and it seems like a nice addition.

Looking forward to your write up.

David, you have had that TP on the shelf a long time. About time to install it, isn't it?
I love mine.

Yeah, yeah...tell me about it. I wasn't really a big fan of NAV systems in general but picked it the TP when Crutchfield was blowing them out. Maybe I'll just sell it and get some other frivolous toy

You would easily get your money back. The Nav system works well, it plugs right in, Porsche OEM look and it has the Aux input that is so popular with the Ipod gang.

As others have said, do a search on the traffic pro installation. I installed mine and spliced into one of the wires on the rear wing regulator located under the dash on the passenger side - right below the glove box. It was very easy to get at and it is close to the radio head unit, so running the wire is simple and easy.

Good luck.
