Default Nakamichi Reliability??

I have been looking at the variety of options to get an Ipod hookup in the 993.

CDR220 is the only real factory option, though some have tricked the CDR210 using the CD changer. I like the looks of the Nakamichi CD decks, and their sound quality is supposedly unparalleled. but as I have looked into it, it seems that there are reliability issues with the Nakamichi Head Units.

Can those that have them, speak to this? good bad indifferent. I would hate to have a great sounding deck that I can only use part time.

Thanks

Kika, Do you have a link to the Nak units you are looking at? I don't have one but always wanted a Nak deck.

I have had a CD400 installed for three years with no problems. Focal speakers and an Arc Audio amp. The looks fit the interior of the 993 very well in my opinion.

Only problem I've had is with my PSS9s' set at 5 rear, a harsh speed bump will get you a skip.......I agree a 100% the fit and finish for a 993 is great.

Default Nak experience

I have had a nakamichi CD35 in my Boxster since 2000. I have had no reliablitiy
issues with the unit and the sound (through A/D/S amp and speakers) is excellent. I have a nakamichi dragon cassette deck in my home stereo and I am very impressed with nakamichi quality.
Good luck with your system

No problems with mine, although I don't use it that often. The sound, though, is superior.

I used to sell Naka in my store. Stay away from the multi changers and you should be sweet. Great sound quality and build too.

I had the Nak Unit with the built in CD Changer in my 964. It would over heat and then the changer would jam and CD's would not play.

I say stick to the Non Changer type or get a Becker.

I would agree with those that suggest staying away from the multi-changer head units.

Love the look and fit in the dash but it began to get CDs stuck in one of the slots after very little use. I never use it for CDs now and have hooked up a cable to play the iPod through the system.

I've bought a couple of head units on ebay and been pleased with how quickly my product came in and that it was new in box as described. I do expect that it would be a huge pain in the butt to deal with any of these vendors on warranty repair/service/replacement as well as returns, but fortunately have never done so.

I think that's a gamble you'll have to take to buy it so stinking cheap. Woofers Etc has http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm the same head unit for $360, and I'd bet that's pretty cheap judging by their prices on other stuff.

My Nak deck is fine, single CD at a time, though they skip sometimes. Everytime I think about bringing it in, it stops skipping. It's ok though as I rarely listen to CD's. I used to be such an audiophile and now all I listen to is talk radio! I haven't listened to my home stereo in ages.
