call Dave at Redlline Oil...he will give you a recipe for Redline cocktail of 75w90 and MTL...it is an excellent choice! Dave is a Porsche fan and enjoys talking with owners and enthusiasts.

I tried the Redline straight up and with a mix suggested, didn't solve my cold shifting problem with the synchros. Finally the Swepco 201 made it better. I will try the MTL-R from Specialty Formulations next. I had good results using that oil in my 996's gear box, which eliminated cold shifting problem by 80%.

just read something on the specialty formulation's web site regarding the MTL-R gear oil which is not for gear boxes with limited slip diffs.
am I reading this correctly?

also from reading the redline oil web site.
http://www.redlineoil.com/products_g...5&categoryID=6
they have gear oil 79W-90NS and without NS. the 79W-90NS is for transaxles without limited slip and will help with cold shifting much like what Special formulation's MTL-R claims to do.
So, the question is should/can I use the MTL-R gear oil or redline 75W -90 in my limited slip transaxle?
kind of confused.

Just for everyone's information...Callas this afternoon recommended Royal Purple (I know, I know) after hearing about my 1st->2nd cold shift issue, claims this is common and that his customers have had good success with RP in humid Texas. I figure it can't hurt to try... Will report back when I get the car back later this week.

Are you guys also having hard shifting when trans is warm between first and second ?
For me that is a potential problem, tried Lubro Moly 75w-90, and Mobil 1 75w-90 with no change.

The issues we have is only when cold, once warmed up the tranny shifts perfectly smooth. This is true for both my 993 and 996, with the MTL-R the problem in the 996 is almost completely gone.

When you made the switch over of trans oils for better cold weather shifting - were the results immediate, or did it take some time for the new oil to wear in ?
Thank you.
