I'm head over to the dark side (the 996 Forum) to ask about real life RMS issues.
I'll be back shortly with comments.

Check out the 996 forum for my post. Interesting response so far. Just one:

I could be wrong but I suspect I might demand (and receive) just a little bit more out of my Porsches than you do pcar. OK, I read your post but only because it was addressed to me.

What do you hope to learn about the RMS that isn't already known? Like I said, it's a joke. It sucks and Porsche should have figured it out and fixed it in 1999.

Just like the valve guides and SAI on the 993 and the 2nd gear pop out on the 996TT. They all have there own set of problems

Yea right. You expect your Porsche to look good and feel like you're going faster than you really are on the way to Starbucks. I expect my Porsche to win races and set records at tracks like Daytona and Road America.

Your turn....

pcar, give it up; you won't win this one against Jim. He's a damn good driver who canes the crap out of his car to win.

Actually Mark, I'll quit first. These sorts of interactions are silly.

So are you going to make it west this year? Road America is a great place to spend labor day!

Jim,

I might do Road America. It's a month before Summit and well out of my busy season. The problem is that I'll need someone to help refuel me during the enduro.

I just did Road Atlanta (first time there. One of my favorite tracks with WG and Sebring right up there) and have the Glen, Summit Point and maybe Putnam on my schedule.

If you make it to Road America I'd be happy to refill your car. With any luck I won't start it on fire. If we're in the same race it will be easy to find someone to help. Half of Rennlist goes. Not long ago on the racing forum Road America seemed to come out on top of the best club race pole. It was certainly among the best along with WG, Sebrings, etc. It really is one of those tracks you have to do at some point.

Thanks, Jim. Just promise me you won't refuel me like John Haas (fellow D competitor and friend) did by pouring my fuel in an ounce at a time, as well as setting off my alarm! John, I know you're out there! It was actually kind of funny.

I'll let you know as the season progresses, and as my budget shrinks.

You have an alarm? Please tell me your racecar doesn't have that gizmo that forces you to lock and unlock your doors to restart the engine. I really loved my 993 but that was the dumbest "feature" I've ever seen.
Later,
Jim
