Old Yeller - Convertible Top Cleaning and Protecting DIY -PICS
Since Old Yeller is getting ready for the paint booth I needed to remove the top assembly. I thought it was a good time to do a cleaning as well as apply a protectant. This is a very simple DIY. Here are the products I used.
1. Soft bristle brush
2. Ragg Top Convertible Top Cleaner
3. Ragg Top Fabric Protectant
4. Mirror Glaze #18 Clear Plastic Cleaner/Polish
Pic 1 and 2 - The dirty top
Pic 3 - The products I used
Pic 4 - Ragg Top Cleaner sprayed on and lightly scrubbed in circular motions with the soft bristle brush. Note: Wet the top first.
Pic 5 and 6 - After the top dries I taped off the the rear window, seals and rails. I did this so they would not get hit with protectant.
Pic 7 and 8 - Finished product.
Note: When spraying on the protectant lightly mist an even coat. Let dry completely(I used a heat lamp and waited 20 min.) and repeat. I did 3 coats all together. I also used this same procedure on the boot cover
This was a great time to polish the back plastic on the window as well. With the top off the car I could get the inside of the window with no issues.
I know this is a simple DIY, but for those that have never tried it will enhance the look of the top as well as protect it from pre-mature deterioration.

Ragtopp is great stuff for fabric! I made the same experience.
There are really good products out there (like 303 aerospace protectant for plastic and vinyl), and this forum talks about it!

I have heard of this. I think Jeff (InTheAir) used that product with great results. When I run out of the Meguiar's I will give it a try. Always like trying new products out.

Mike,
use the rest of your Meguiar for your wife's car and get the 303 aerospace for the 993. My car interior looked like new after I have used it. You will not believe it! You can get it online or at ACE (at least here in Houston)

I also used the Meguirs #10 and #17 for the rear window--the combination did a great job.
Looks good, Mike.
Correction---I use #10 and #17: http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars1017.html
