Thought about it. Can't figure out where to mount them without looking ridiculous. I used to drive around with a pair of Hella Rally 4000s on the bumper of a previous car. The deer would catch fire before they could jump in front of me.

I'll probably end up with high wattage high beams and relays. The high beam pattern isn't awful--would probably make decent use of 100-120W bulbs.

Have you looked into converting the H3 bulbs to HID? I'm not sure this has been done yet but it looks interesting...

Here's a link: http://www.pilothid.com/

I know I'm going to look into it further as I'm going to do the HID upgrade for the headlights for both the 964 and 993... It's definately on my spring agenda...

I had a set on my 4Runner for the last 5 years - amazing lights:

I had the same idea and I am now in the process of upgrading the turbo S fog lights to 55W driving lights. I am removing the standard 35W fog lights and will mount the new 55W Pilot driving lights with a long throw beam pattern in the stock housing. The diameter of the new lights is approximately 2 inches and should fit nicely...

Ted,
The PO of my 993 installed a set of factory Turbo S ducts and substituted a set of PIAA fog lamps for the positioning lamps. I've never inspected how these are attached to the ducts, but I can say that the light output is very nice. Although I rarely have a use for them.

well thanks for the comments-a while back i saw a v12 e-type with the driving lights just behind the front grill-similar situation-but grill was metal-i am afraid the undergarment of the 993 might melt-55w is not going to see the hoof of a deer-my litronics are great until you go bright-it would be great at high speeds to see at night-

Andreas, the photo of turbo S ducts with the PIAA lights is exactly what I am looking for in the final design. Do you know if the lights are a fog or driving light pattern?

Ted,
I think they are fog and are model 1100XT-somethingoranother. I'll try to dig out the receipt I received from the PO.

Ted,

I just purchased the Turbo S ducts. I will be installing them in the next week or so. How are you planning on mounting the new lights in the ducts? The current lights fit in the ducts, just behind the clips; can these new lights fit the same way?

Ethan, good question regarding the process to mount the new driving lights in the Turbo S ducts.

I plan to use both adhesive and mechanical fasteners to attach the lights - GE High Temp Clear Silicon around the circular opening for the lense and two screws through the mounting bracket and fiberglass flange. I'll take some photos when I get the ducts painted and can complete the assembly process.

Since you guys are talking about lights with ducts, I'll post a link to the definitive thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/285026-diy-improving-the-crappy-turbo-duct-lights.html

Mike J used the Hella Micro DE Fog lights, but you can also get them in an HID driving pattern (for $700). In terms of low profile down the road performance, I would say that would be hard to beat. I don't believe you can get the driving pattern lenses with conventional bulbs, but you can call my buddy Dave at Rallylights and ask: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/Micro_DE.asp

Also, Rallylight has a page of beam pattern comparisons that makes great reading:
http://www.rallylights.com/hella/ISO...ms_Driving.asp

Unfortunately, you end up with the conclusion that bigger = better. With few exceptions, the big 4000 and 3000 lights outperform anything smaller, regardless of HID vs Halogen. Top image is Micro DE HID, bottom image is Rally 4000 halogen.

Ted,

I did a test fit last night of the ducts. It's going to look sweet. I also fired up the lights, and man they are week. I'm looking forward to you DIY on the new lights.
