993 track car question
This is a question for those of you that turned your 993's into track cars. Did you purposely seek out a 993 to turn it into a track car or did you get bitten by the track bug after owning your car for a while?

I did it the dumb way. I bought a very, very nice 993 and figured I'd do maybe a four or five DE's a year. Yeah, right. It became a hard-core track car four years ago. I wasn't recently bitten by the track bug but had a dormant virus that was awakened by my P-car. I've obsessed about racing for a long, long time.

I'll answer as long as we don't start talking about how much it all costs. Let's see, in no particular order: Motons, rotors, ERP monoballs, race seats, fire extinguisher, rotors, TRG sways, Fikse wheels, Momo wheel, battery cut-off switch, race harnesses, limited slip diff, window net, MPSC's, Hoosiers, 3.8 RS wing, custom spoiler insert, custom front splitters, race radio system, scanner, rotors, rotors, rotors...I know there's more but my head is starting to pound and I'm hyperventilating.
Not directly attached to the car but definitely related: Trailex trailer, Sequoia truck, driver's suit, 10lb extinguisher for enduros, pyrometer, spare drive shaft, spare belts, spare calipers.

I started with a non-track car, but then slid down the slipperyslope to my 993
Please, never ask these questions; its better that we not know. Especially don't ask MarkinBaltimore or me!
I started this very slippery slope with my 1986 911 cabriolet; 4 years/4 days each year, I figure either do a lot more or stop before I wear out the car. Common sense rules and I buy a pristine 1984 911 coupe; oh boy, that was a fun car. Put in a role bar, 5-point harnesses, Recaro SRD seats, Koni adjustable shocks, Pagid Blue brake pads; it was already lowered to Euro height;bought some Fiske wheels and shod them with (eventually) Hoosiers or Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. Bought the Trailex, then the Expedition to tow it. 95 track days later, I sell it for more than I paid for it. Oh, my - getting deeper.
Bought a 993 (1995) prepared Class D race car; its in the picture. Really nicely set up by previous owner; details are in the sig block. The car is nothing short of perfect for me; a more capable 911, which is just what I wanted. Feels very secure and predictable but quick.
Hope this helps; always glad to weigh in on 993 track car questions.

Here are a few photos. I really don't have too many. The first one is my 993 in completely umolested form. The last one is after it rolled off of my trailer and missed hitting another car and two or three trees and ended up being gently stopped and cossetted by some giant bamboo.

Rick,
I've always found it interesting that your stock, D-class 993 has short gears (bumps you to the big-boy GT class). I know you bought it that way since we had already talked about it at the Glen.

Thanks for the pictures Mark. I'm certainly on top of the hill looking down that slippery slope.
I'm officially taking donations for my track car fund. I take cash, check, or pay pal. :-)

Bought mine "done". It had a cage and all the safety stuff. I've put the JIC suspension on it and monoballs everywhere since. A few other things too. Even though we thought this car was done when we bought it, we;ve spent thousands on upgrades, not to mention maintenance. Pics are as purchased and after lowering and graphics.
