I was looking on Fleabay and noticed LA Porsche Dismantlers were charging a flat $125 for shipping. I'm sure it's for packaging as well as freight. Packing would be a PITA unless you have original packing materials.

It sounds exactly DOUBLE what I would expect it to be.

Ask him how he came up with the number. Also ask him to verify dimensions/weight, then go to the UPS or FedEx site and plug in the data. Frankly, I thought $125 was pretty cheap, seeing that it's no doubt a way oversized piece by the time the package is around it.

Here is what I know given I'm trying to sell my old 993 front bumper w/ the RSCS splitters attached and have gotten some quotes for a couple people. This is UPS standard ground:
MD to CA $170
MD to OH $150
This is in a box (that I've provided and packed). It's definately not about the weight it's about this size of the box.

Depends if your shipper 'cubes' the dimensions - which with the bumper shape will drive the calculation to a much more expensive/bigger 'box'. Even so, 150-200 is not surprising.... If you're not in a rush, consider using Greyhound vs. courier services.

I got a bumper box from a body shop and shipped one from Los Angeles to New Jersey via DHL for $65.00. It took 3 days. They were the cheapest and fastest at the time. This was about a year and a half ago

there is another way, Greyhound. weight limit is 100 lbs and it must fit under a bus. it goes space available some times it is fast, but i just shipped 968 fender from MD and it took 9 days to get to California, but it was cheap probably under 75 to ship. you have to go to a terminal to ship and you have to go to a terminal to pick up.

I didn't even know Greyhound was still in business. Who takes the bus anywhere? Interesting idea though, I'll have to Google where the closest Greyhound terminal is to me.
