Default C2 vs C4

Yes, i did a search because i'm sure this has been discussed before, but the search engine said that ( C2 vs C4 ) was too short / too common to be used as searchable terms.
Please feel free to direct me to the appropriate threads

I have a decent idea of the basic differences and would like some opinions from the owners of each variant.

I live in So. Cal. and will likely never see snow and rarely see rain.

1) Do all C4's have ABD / LSD unless specially ordered without? Or is this only the case for C4S models?
2) What are the drawbacks of 4 wheel drive in good weather other than, extra mass, extra complexity, extra potential maintenance, extra buy-in cost?
3) Is the 4 wheel drive variant as "fun" to drive in AX / DE events, fun defined as in hanging the tail out occasionally? Am i wrong to assume that the C4 is less likely to be able to do this?
4) If all other options are equivalent, what is the approximate weight difference between the two.

and most importantly

5) Why did you choose a C4 instead of a C2?

thanks for your time.

Craig

Yes, there has been a lot of posts about the differences and answers to some of your questions about the C2 and C4.

You may want to start with last week's C2 vs C4 thread of the month on this link:

I have always been a fan of AWD and I like the way my C4 handles. Not saying its better over a C2 but just my preference. Granted I live where it snows a lot but I dont drive it in the snow. Two of my vehicles are AWD, 1 is 4WD.

To sum up your ?s 1-5, I never considered any of those when buying. I wanted a 993 and I found one and bought it. I didnt realize I even bought a C4 until I bought it. It looked cool on Ebay. I bought it, had a buddy look at it, picked it up a few weeks later. Yes, bought it prior to having my buddy look at. I have since bought 2 cars from the same person on Ebay-both without ever driving them before purchasing.

Yes, I can take my C4 and throw it nearly 90 degree's one way, back another 140 degree's the other direction, back the other direction another 120 degrees and pull out of it straight as an arrow on any given Sunday. I hope this doesnt start a debate on my driving.

I have always been a fan of AWD
2nd. Once you've learned to exploit AWD fully, you just shake your head that performance cars could be built any other way.

On the other hand the 993 C4 has the least AWD possible while still occasionally driving the front wheels. It's beneficial effects are barely perceptible most of the time, and you can absolutely hang the tail out at will, anywhere, anytime, with throttle or weight transfer.

A C2 is more tossable though. You live in CA... why are you considering 4WD?

I wish to remain true to the early spirit of Porsche... for me 2WD only.

Good luck in your quest for the holey grail of motoring pleasure

Then get rid of those disc brake and don't use all 6 gears.

That always cracks me up. Somehow adding a 1960s tech plate-type LSD is an admired performance upgrade, despite adding power understeer that definitely changes the "early spirit", yet diverting a bit of power to the front wheels--no matter how subtly--just ruins the experience. LOL.

I get in my car, start it, put it in gear, and drive. Nothing else matters after that to me. No analization, thoughts of weight, dont care about LSD, disc brakes, what the temp is, if its raining or snowing, bright sunny day or if my engine tray is on or off.

Im just your average person who bought a great quality car that enjoys getting in it and driving. I have way to many hobbies and passions to care less if it was a C2 or C4 when I bought mine.

Either way, I dont think it will make a difference at the end of the day. The only difference it makes today is you have neither. :-)

Good luck on your search.

1) you dont NEED C4 in California conditions, some people do
therefore --
2) buy the absolute best condition 993 you can and be somewhat agnostic on the C2 vs. C4

I tend to agree with "Monique" on this one, but it is a personal preference thing...

Find the best condition, best looked after one that you can for your money then worry about C2 vs C4, mileage, etc.

Good luck!
