Default 993 C2 vs. C4

Hi everyone,

Could I get your opinions on purchasing a C2 vs. a C4? Mostly driving in Summer, no winters. Is there an advantage of having the C4 under "normal" road conditions?

Thanks,

C2's are lighter, nimbler, and less mechanically complex.

That said: C4's rule.

C4's are for guys who can't drive two wheel drive cars well

rmpc993,
Actually both are excellent cars, it boils down to which clean example you find first. Good Luck with the hunt! .......ZP44

Find the best example in the color you like, with a price you can afford.

They are both great cars--however, there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

What would the disadvantages of the C4 be? And, what keywords would you put in the search to find the threads on this topic. I put in C2 and C4 and the results said my keywords were too common.

C4 Disadvantages: Non-purist 911 platform, extra weight with commensurate performance loss, more moving parts to maintain or replace during life of car.

I completely agree! I was actually looking for a C4S, before I bought my car. I know I wanted a wide body, I was sure it was a C4S, but when I found my car I fell in love and the story goes on from there. I do however remember hearing from the P-Dealer in Riverside, on more than one ocassion.. "If your going for a pre-owned Porsche, what ever you do BE SURE ITS A 993!" actually I beleve the real quote was "a 95 - 98".

Advantage, Sports Car + Snow Mobile in one, and Turbo Brakes to boot!

No, there's not. The C4 is heavier and unless you're driving the car at 8/10's all the time you'd probably never notice the difference.

However, get stuck in a nasty rain storm.....and that C4 will stick like glue compared to the twitchy rear end of the C2.

I'd like some butter and salt on my pcorn please.....
