Back when I was searching for a name for my sailboat I was reading an article about the Dalai Lama. He had delivered an eight hour sermon on the three prerequisites for tantrism, the most magical form of Mahayana Buddhism: renunciation, enlightened motive and a correct understanding of sunyata (nothingness). Well the light bulb went off and I had a name! I changed the "u" to an "a" so as not to be too pretentious only to find out later that sanyata appears in Sanskrit as well spelled with an "a." I've since run across two other boats named Sunyata and we have always performed a spiritual bow toward each other as we passed.

This was the first combination of names I thought I could remember that was not taken when I joined this board. Funny, neither my wife nor I have these as our first names. But we do have and almost always have had a Porsche in the family.

I first used this name about 9-10 years ago when I wanted to buy something on ebay. Had to register in a hurry so that I didn't miss out on the item. Firefighter is my profession and S M are my initials - so firesm it was, about the only thing I could be sure to remember, and I've used it several times since.

From the town in Encinitas, CA of the same name. Where I used to live before joining the evil empire and where I should have stayed.

I was looking for usernames that started with "Dave" (that being my first name and all), and had recently listened to the classic Cheech N Chong bit, so...

I could go on and get all metaphysical about how we're all usually wishing we're someplace else (except maybe when we're behind the wheel of our cars), but that would imply that I put some thought into my username.

This thread is great.
I feel a bit inadequate now.
My handle is just the name of our street.
I wish I was more windswept and interesting!
