Default Power seat stuck

Well, I don't passenger many in the 993 and I certainly don't get driven around so, I never really tested the passenger seat.

When I was installing the radio, I did AND I noticed that all the power seat functions work MINUS the fwd/rr function.

To be more specific, it sounds and feels (if you place you hand on the motor) like it is binding or to make a better picture, as if the rails have been welded together. The motor turns but binds and neither of the two arms of the spiral gears turn.

Any one have this ussue? It seems like the motor is working and that the gears have frozen for some reason.

33k miles on the clock. Lack of use maybe? A VERY sticky coke spill ( :

Thx.

Maybe something stuck in the track?
Mine was stuck then started working on it's own before I had a chance to look into it.
Recently removed the pass. seat for another project and I found a very mutilated penny.

I've got the same problem on my 35 K mile 96 TT. It is a real bugger. At least the seat is all the way back.

Search for a thread and DIY on fixing this issue. In fact the P-car site has an excellent pictorial DIY. This link my get you there: http://p-car.com/diy/seatshaft/

None of the usual things has worked on my seat rail. The outboard side is stuck real well and I am about to put a 90 degree bend on a flare nut wrench to see if I can coax it free. Be careful what you put in the square drive on rack to to turn it.. it may break off in there and make a worse problem..

Good luck to you,

Common problem. The 'rock a bye baby' method works but try NOT to be a rough-rider when you're doing it. Just use your shifting body weight to 'coax' it to move ...not as a forward in a rugby scrum!

(And, yes, check to see if there are any errant pennies or pens, pencils, etc!)

It is all too easy to break the square tipped flex drive cables .... don't ask!
Try elevating the rear of the seat an inch or so prior to racking it back and forth - I find this can help.

The rodeo or rocking never worked for me, but even better was this old diy I found from the 964 forum, worked like a charm. I believe I had the same problem you have now. I was able to do this without taking the seat out of the car, there was just enough slack on the cable. Thanks to Garrett376 for writing up the diy.

Thanks all.

Like i said, the switch/motor is not the issue in my mind. The switch completes circuit, the motor activates BUT the gears don't turn.

My wife and I are still active so, maybe a good dinner, a bottle of wine and a passenger seat, um, exploration will do the trick ( :

Thanks all.

Close your garage door.

That, and when you get it unstuck, try not to leave it in the rear-most position as that "seems" to be at least one facator in contributing to SSS --stuck seat syndrome.

Just took care of the same problem in mine today. It tends to bind up on the rails so I just cleaned things up and put on a little parafin to lube things a bit. Did the trick! I agree with what Edward said about it tending to get stuck in the rearmost position.

So - the advice is in from the experts: however you do it, stay away from the rear-most position .....

I was able to free mine simply by grabbing the top portion of the seat and moving it around WHILE holding down the "move seat forward" button. This, while standing outside the car, not sitting in the seat. Once it's free, leave it 1/2" or so forward of the rear-most position.

There was a really funny thread about doing the rodeo in the seat while holding the button, but several people reported stripped cables after doing that little number.
