Default Need help with this RSD

I think I may have found a Rear Seat Delete!

I will have to re-carpet and re-upholster to match my Classic Grey interior, but I need to check to make certain that this is a correct RSD for a 993.

Here are the pictures that the seller has sent to me:

With the following email:
Russ,

Please see attached pics. Perhaps you can tell me if this is the one you need. As far as I know, there are the early versions (88 club sport) and later coupe (RSA) and later cab (America roadster, 94 964 cab). I believe the club sport, coupe, and cab versions are different. 964 and 993 parts are supposedly interchangable

I got this as part of an RSA interior (seats and RSD) so I believe it to be a 964 coupe version.

I am looking for $xxx + shipping for it.

Cheers,
So here are the questions:
  • Does this look "right"?
  • What pieces are "missing"? I know that there should be attachement brackets that go from the RSD to seat belt bolts. What/ where/ how would I get the right Part numbers and order these parts?
  • What would a good price be for this RSD?
  • Any other answers to the points he brought up in his email? I do know that supposedly the only difference in the cabriolet version is a solenoid that wires into the OEM alarm from the storage box doors.

I'm not sure there is a "right". I bought a 964 RSD and it fit ok to fine in my 993. Its not like they changed the interior dimensions a bunch from year to year.

It looks like the attachment brackets that go from the RSD plywood shelf (bottom) to the seat belt attachment point are not there. It also looks like the hoops have some scratches.

I paid around $400 for mine. These are hard to find. You are recarpeting, and possibly powdercoating the hoops and ordering brackets so take that into account.

I'm not sure if I sent you my RSD DIY but will be glad to sent it if you send me a PM.

Best wishes & Happy Holidays

Howard - You did send the DIY and it has been an excellent reference for me. Thank you.
Any idea on how to get those brackets? Or at least the part #'s?

I'm not sure that is from an RS-America? The two metal hoops came with the cabriolet version of the luggage dump and the bottom side of the RSA part is unfinished plywood. It's tough to tell from the photo of the underside but that doesn't look like unfinished plywood? or is it water damaged?

To know the part numbers for the support bracket we need a better photo of the underside. The fastening arrangement was changed for the 993 and we need to know exactly which model year this luggage dump came out of and what is still bolted onto the backside.

You'll need the following part no's;

964-555-851-00 (2) support bracket
999-025-113-02 (2) washer 11.5 x 21 x 2
111-857-799-A (2) fastening screw (you might already have this?)
811-857-845 (2) cap

The 993 RLD attached the support bracket with

900-075-362-02 (4) screw M5 x 25

from the underside while the 964 used those 4 screws but from above and

999-033-003-02 (4) nut M5
900-151-027-02 (8) washer B5.3 x 15 x 1.6

on the bottom side. So you need to take at look where the holes are located before ordering the mounting fasteners.

JasonAndreas - WOW!
That was exactly the information I was looking for!

Thank you so much - so complete and so fast too!

If this is for a cab - all the better fittment in my car.

Russ,
It looks like you're missing the two limit straps for the door on the driver's side. You can see the straps in the closeup pic of the passenger side door.

That looks like the right RSD for the 993...pic looks similar to mine. You'll need to decide if you want to keep the hops (I removed them since they look awkward) and if recarpeting whether to keep the center divider (good for keeping things from shifting but does look kinda odd IMHO...I kept them). As Yuji pointed out, the right door is missing the nylon straps but not a biggie...mine were torn so I replaired/replaced them. For the bin doors, if you have some black in your interior then you can keep them as is, or you can recover them either in black or grey leather....IMHO grey leather/vinyl may be a difficult match so black might be better (for mine, I did them in black instead of tan)

Default rsd option

I have always loved the RSD option. I hardly ever see them. My '68 soft window has much the same setup. I would love the same in my 993T. Did you happen to come across one in tan? Perhaps the black would be ok with the tan interior as Daviv in LA put it there are already black components in the interior,,, dash etc. Know where there is another RSD set up?

Best,
Danny
