Default The little triangle windows...

Hey, the 'retro styliing' thread got me to thinking about this again.

Our cars have little triangular windows in the forward part of the doors. They are non-functional.

I think it would be cool to be able to open them. Was there an option on any 993's that allowed for openable triangle windows, or is there a kit that would modify it to work? I always liked the openable triangle windows in cars that had them.

~thanks~

They are operable on the early 911/912 chassis, like your dads fifties Ford - don't know when the hinges and latch disappeared, but with some creative work perhaps they could be converted.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure that 1971 was the last year 911's had vent windows.

Those were the days, when you could open the vent window to beyond 90 degrees so fresh air would be directed to your face and body. Felt good on a warm summer evening. Wish we still had those.

The older 911's also had an opening rear side window. It'd be nice to have that back, too, but that's probably not going to happen.

Progress.

You'd think it would have been an option on the RS cars with the A/C delete...

Should be an option on any car with an ashtray and cigarette lighter!

On the early cars they were often a source of wind noise, unless the rubber was fresh and the windows adjusted perfectly.

Straight off of the National Weather Sevice site! One of their more frequently used icons for my town's forecast, unfortunately...

Yep, the opening "wing" windows were part of the early long wheelbase 911s, which began in '69.

Hmmm, I remember my 68 912 had opening wing windows and my 69 912 did not. Just checked ebay and apparently the 69 models did not have the opening windows but the 70-72 did, I'm confused.

As I recall, those wing windows were / are an easy place for low lifes to gain entry to the car. Maybe why they went away.

In the latter cars, the front vent windows appeared on targas, which did not have the rear vent windows.
