993 for $15,000 ?
All things being equal, what do you think about a 1995 993 C4 with 130,000 miles assuming no accidents or problems going for $15,000
I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I met a gentleman that just wants to get it off his hands so he can buy a newer porsche.
Please comment ! Much Appreciated !

If it sounds too good to be true, it normally is. You won't get a decent 964 for that money. Is it a local car? Can you get a PPI on it?
You may find he'll ask you to send the cash plus a little more (which will be sent back to you) and he'll deliver the car to you. You'll never see your money or the car again.

very low, but the dealer may not give him more than that in trade since they will just have to wholesale it out with high miles.
If interested, have a PPI and run the VIN with Porsche to get a few more details. You may want to run the VIN with the police, too!
By the way, I have seen a decent 964 for that price at a reputable shop.

It always amuses me when people think they've found "an incredible deal." We're talking about Porsche 911s here folks, even at market price they're an incredible deal for what you're getting. If you find one for HALF of market price, there's something wrong with the car, or there's something wrong with the owner - either way, I wouldn't go near it.

John H sold his 200,000 mile 993 for around $16,000?? If so, $16K is a very, very good price, perhaps one that we'll not often see. Maybe John can pipe up. His car sounded like it was very well-maintained.

Wow. This group is really amazing ! in less than 6 hours there are 7 responses to this thread ! (and it was posted very early in the am!! ) cool...
I guess, more to the point...what should I look for or be concerned about SPECIFICALLY with a 993 with 130,000 miles on. I am not squimish about the miles.....and this is going to be a daily driver.
About the car's owner
I actually "bumped into" the owner randomly on the street..... basically caught him before he had even started to enter the "selling process"
I am going to do my due deligence, but I wonder if it basically comes down to "there's nothing you can complain about because the car is $15,000"..lol.

Mine had 200,000 miles and sold for $17000.00 I could have sold it at that price 10 times. $15K sounds like a really good deal. If the person doens't want to trade it in or fool with selling it himself, I can almost see him letting it go for that price. Look at it his way, for $15K plus a complete motor and tranny rebuild and you have $30ish in the car and will have one with a new motor and tranny, not one with 60-80K on the clock. Just budget accordingly and you'll be fine.
Buy it and if you don't like it, I am sure you can resell it and get your money back.

If you like it, check it out closely, and check out the seller as suggested above.
A friend, who is a high-line used car dealer, often has someone pull into his place and ask how much they can get that day "to get rid of this thing". Usually it is a spouse who received the car as part of a divorce settlement...and hates the car. He buys them at rediculous prices if all checks out. They are usually wholesaled away or become great track cars, because they aren't usually well cared for cosmetically, etc.

I purchased my 1995 with about 150K for $22,000 almost a year ago. It was repainted and had new rear brakes when I go it. Replaced the sparkplugs and wires, replaced the oil pressure sending unit, front brakes, basic maintenance stuff. I love my car. If you find a 993 with over 100K then it has been driven which means it had to have been taken care of.
Buy it, enjoy it, fix it when it does not go fast or stop quickly and keep on enjoying it.

Get a reputable shop to perform a throughly pre purchase inspection including a leakdown test...this will cost you around $250-300 but will disclose any possible problems or maintenance issues for the near future...
It's definitely a steal...

for what its worth....
i bought a 37k miles 964 garage queen and it broke all the time!!! the repair costs were unbelievable.
i bought a 118k miles 993 and it costs 1/4 to maintain/repair compared to the 964. the car has been very very reliable. i sill have it and enjoy and don't worry about putting miles on it. the only parts of the car where i notice more wear are things like the pits on the windshield & some suspension components.
moral of the story - low miles is over rated!!! i would much rather buy a car that has been driven & maintained over a low mileage car any day. do your homework - a well maintained car is the key.
as a side note, most people that look at my car think it has 30k miles on it.
