Default gap between tail lights and body

I been noticing that there is a gap between my tail lights and body, wider on the passenger side, there just not flush. Is this a design flaw or am i the only one. Do i need to do some adjusting? I have notice this on other 993s. Go out to the garage and take a look. if possible post pics

If you are talking about having a gap along the top then it's a design floor, the light units can work loose, but they do tend to sag leaving a gap. I was thinking that jaming a rubber srtip underneath the light units may help keep them up and level but never actually got around to doing it.

The height of the center panel and it's alignment w/ the body is adjustable via 3 cheese head(Phillips) adjusters, 1 at each end and 1 in the middle.

Please do acknowledge that the gap above the turn signals is purposely there and acts
as a major engine cooling outlet together with the gap between the lid and the central light block.
If you look closely, the vacuum created behind the vehicle in motion sucks the hot air out of these outlets.
Do not any circumstance plug these gaps.
Aligning the turn signals shoiuld be done aligned with the central optic block.
turn signals-central block should be rectilinear and almost touching the rear bumper.

Mine is exactly the same, thought it was a problem until I visited the Porsche Club GB meeting earlier this year and saw that all the other 993s were the same. It does seem out of keeping for such a superb German car as everything else seems to fit so well. But it is standard fit so nothing to worry about.

The 3 adjusters can be seen here

Don't see how hot air can be extracted from the engine compartment when it's all buttoned up though

It only works if you have removed the engine under-tray!

Excuse me, I could swear that he said

the space between turn-signal in the bumper and the rear fender is an outlet.
The turn signal cavity is the end-point of the fender where the mufflers are,
in motion, hot air will be trapped there if there was no outlet.
The open cavity reacts as a pseudo-radiator exposing the turn signal/fender cavity to air.
When you open the rear lid, just look at the black plastic band covering the central light unit.
This same plastic has fins from underneath, where vacuum developed behind the vehicle, sucks hot air
from behind the central lightning unit and the top of the fender, just above the catalytic converter.
Please ask a mechanic at the stealer, and I am sure you will have the same answer.

I agree.

I notice my car has a big gap and then looked at every other 993.

They all have the big gaps.

Here is the cooling outlet that extracts hot air from the engine sidewalls, and fender tip above the mufflers.
In the pictures you have provided we cannot see the gap.
So again, you do not want to fill and block the space between the turn signals,
as this lets hot air out.

regards

if we think long enough we can come up with any excuse for any flaws our cars may have, just kidding. Now that I know the gap is there for a purpose it doesnt bother me anymore.
