Can someone help? I'm trying to find out quickly if the Porsche Baby Safe seat fits in the back of a 993/911? I'm bidding on one on E-bay and the seller claims it does but I'm wondering how? Does anyone have experience of this?

I spent last evening searching just about every child seat thread here on Rennlist and on Pelican in preparation for installing a front facing child seat in the back seat.

There were posts to the effect that recent Porsche baby seats are ALL for the front seat, using the airbag disable thing, and that they don't fit well or at all in the rear. The exception is the Porsche branded booster seat for older kids (38lbs+), which fits perfectly in the back.

And from my own test fitting, I guarantee that any rear facing baby seat in the back seat will have your passenger eating the dashboard.

That's quick! I have a 2.5 year old who uses the Porsche Prince which is an OK seat but which fits fine in the back with no problems at all. We have another on the way and the seller of a Porsche Baby Safe rearward-facing seat (0 to 9 months) is claiming that it fits in the back. Any thoughts?

My son is 16 mos and about 26lbs. A Prince would work, but you rarely see them in the U.S. Per other posts here, I bought an inexpensive Cosco booster seat which is quite low profile.

About the Prince--do you know the actual manufacturer? I saw an Ebay UK auction for a Mazda branded Prince. Same as the Porsche version.

I think it will be difficult to do anything rear facing. Rear facing seats usually have large bases and the lie-down position means the head is right where the front seatback would be. You can orient them more upright, but that's not so safe for the baby's neck if you get rear-ended.

Hi Jon,

As far as I know the Prince is a Britax. I got lucky and found an as-new one on E-bay as it is a glorifed bit of foam with a cover it's easy to check that it has not been in a crash. We used a Graco travel system for our daughter and that works really well but does not fit my car. I'm still trying to work out what to do about the other seat. :-(

Yes, that's what I saw. So the E-bay seller is mistaken! Shame as it would have been good to take the new baby in the car. I guess I'll have to wait nine months like I did with my daughter. Surj - thanks for digging up that link.

Well, the guy is claiming that it fit in the back of his 993 but I wonder how stable it was?

Found this pic, in a Cayenne I assume. The problem with 993s is the seatbelt mounts are so high up that the buckle would interfere.

It would probably just about fit; it's more a question of whether its "footprint" is small enough to sit on the seat pad. The seller is claiming that it will. I'm tempted to try it as worst case I use it in the other case or sell it to someone with a Boxster/996/997 or something that has an easy to turn off airbag. Let's face it, that's the only reason we have all this pain!

Measure your child's length, add 6", and that's about how much horizontal space a rear-facing seat will consume. Remember that your child's feet and head shouldn't come into contact with anything in the car except their own baby seat. As someone noted earlier, it's tough to see how you can get that in the backseat of a 911 without the person in front eating dashboard (or at best being extremely uncomfortable... or short).

With two booster seats in back, our kids look like they're sitting in a Gemini space capsule... all four of us fit, but it's a miracle of packaging economy.

Sorry to hijack the thread, Caveman, but I'm in need of some urgent info regarding this. I am flying out to Orlando on Tuesday and I was hoping one of the guys here could recommend a booster seat or full child seat available in Walmart that will fit in the back of a 993. It needs to be able to seat a three year old.

Any of you guys know of a current model that Walmart or any other large retailer sells in the US?
